Today at a thrift shop I saw what I thought might be a Palm Air.
It had the big wide close mount canopy, white motor with PB GE vent bottom plate, white filigree sideband. It had 5 white blades with cane. I don't remember much about the switch housing or anything. I should have looked for a label on it but I didn't.
Anyway, would this be a Palm Air? I don't know much about the company, were they made by the same OEM as some of Moss' fans?
In a way I thought it could've been a CEI also, it reminded me a lot of the 52" PB GE vent fans Sears sold in the catalog back in the early 90s.
I did not get it, but if it's any good I might. They wanted $10 for it.

It very well could be. I think all they made with that oversized canopy was GE vents and a wood housing one.
I was told Palm Airs were made by Air Cool somewhere I had heard this. I have two of there Ocean Breeze top mount spinners. Used to have two more.

How are the motors on those Ocean Breezes are they a good size? They’re big I’d honestly have to look. I wanna say 188’s but I’d have to look to be clear. I love those fans. Always found it strange the ocean breeze jr is not similar at all!

Always found it strange the ocean breeze jr is not similar at all! That's pretty impressive. The close mount Palm Airs with the GE vents are kind of a childhood fan for me. My local Dairy Queen used to have two in PB/white. The dining room is an L shape and at the counter there was an AB GE vent hugger and an AB GE vent close mount, I think those were 42" and then around the corner there were the two white/PB close mounts. They all got replaced around 2005 with Hunter 42" Low Profiles in white which are still there.

Of the three we had one the bearings went, the second just rusted to no end was in a room With a hot tub and the third not a thing wrong parents updates kitchen and went with something bronze.

I saw a video from Dan N posted yesterday with a close mount 5 blade GE vent that was a CEC/Moss, so I am thinking what I saw may be a Moss. He said it has a cast motor. I'm off next week so I am going to go back probably tomorrow and see if it's still there. I hope it is.
172 is probably likely as I'm sure they wouldn't have likely used a 153 back then. I'd be interested to see what size motors different fans had in the 70s and 80s.

I had it was a childhood fan for me… a 42” Palm Air flush Mount with the large canopy. This one was almond with stencil got it on eBay I wanna say… that had a smaller motor. I never did anythjng with it and then before I moved was gonna put it in my shed had it assembled and broke a blade arm.
I ended up throwing it out I had so much to do with moving I just cut my losses and let it go I’m still mad at myself for doing that.

I went back and looked again and it was still there. I decided not to get it, because the cane was coming loose from the blades, and there were some scratches in the paint. I'll still think about it though. I didn't see a brand on it but I saw it was made in Hong Kong.
There was a Hunter Stonington too in brushed nickel for $25, but it had a big scratch in the cherry side of the blades. I like the Stonington but it has a rather puny motor 153mm. Other than that it had all the hardware and everything.

I'm pretty sure there is a NIB one in Brass at the moment.
With the small motor especially home center Hunters I'd say for $25 you're better off just save another and get a Harbor Breeze Classic at that point if you can't find something else at a thrift store or whatever.

Yeah, one thing I just remembered when my friend's parents added on their house in 2008, they got a Hunter Stonington in brushed nickel for the office room. So that's probably why I liked it, I have memories of it. The Harbor Breeze Classics really aren't that bad. I kind of like the look of the Hampton Bay Rockport too.
