I thought I'd take this opportunity to share the ceiling fans in our house: First Hampton Bay Ascot above our kitchen table, the only ceiling fan on the first floor: Another one in my parent's bedroom: Hampton Bay Carousel in my room: These fans were all purchased new in 2000 when we moved in Unidentified 42", I'm leaning towards Halsey based on the light kit, in the upstairs hallway Two CEI's in the spare bedrooms, I think they're JcPenny branded First one: Second one: These two fans came with the house, the first one was in the kitchen and the second was in the dining room. My parents had them moved upstairs to replace the light fixtures in the bedrooms.

Do you know what the specs are on the Ascots? I sure would like to see those in brass..
I've always liked those Carousels.. Not sure if its something I'd want to install in my house,, but I definitely want one in my collection..
Interesting fan in the hallway.. I have no idea what brand it is.. Are you sure that light is original? It looks like the finish isn't a total match..
Those spare fans are certainly interesting.. Do they perform well?

How long did Hampton Bay make/sell the Ascot? I've never seen one before.

This Hampton Bay "Ascot" (if that is what it is called) is a rebranded Minka Aire, who used to sell an identically-designed model of their own, called the "Churchill". The only difference I have been able to detect is that the Churchill doesn't use pull chains like the rebranded variant does. Other than that, they seem virtually identical. These are high quality, well made fans of predominantly die-cast construction, and they have large 188×20mm motors. From what I've heard, these weigh about as much as a Hunter Original. Picture:

Mind you, I have seen a couple of ceiling fans on the Home Depot website that were similar in design to these, but I couldn't pinpoint the names. When I saw Matt's fans, I wondered where I had seen that design before. I then remembered it was something Minka Aire did awhile back, but I forgot the name of it too. Speaking of which, I found a Minka Aire Churchill up for auction, that just so happens to be a more similar finish to what Matt has. Link: bid.mclemoreauction.com/cgi-bin/mnlist.cgi?mclemore598/62

How long did Hampton Bay make/sell the Ascot? I've never seen one before. I don't know, I cant find info about them anywhere online, I can't even find a picture. But I do have an owner's manual.

Here's the front cover of the owner's manual: The last page with all the specs: I was pretty surprised to see the 8250 CFM rating on high, according to this, it moves more air on medium than most of the fans I'm looking at for my room.

Those spare fans are certainly interesting.. Do they perform well? I took pics of the owner's manual, which includes the specs I skipped over the installation and safety instruction pages. I've actually been wanting to replace my Carousel with something less childish for over 10 years now, I will still hang on to it. I actually started a thread about the hallway fan, I initially was wondering if it is an SMC. I believe those spare fans have been identified by other members as CEI and I have to agree, they definitely look like something sold by JC Penny. We don't use them very much, but I believe they outperform my Carousel, but are beaten by the first two Hampton Bays.

Here's the front cover of the owner's manual: The last page with all the specs: I was pretty surprised to see the 8250 CFM rating on high, according to this, it moves more air on medium than most of the fans I'm looking at for my room. Those CFM ratings are "inaccurate" as of now, since testing methods for residential ceiling fans back then were very different than they are today. As for the RPM info...these vary from fan to fan. Say the RPM info and specifications of the fan (52" blade span, 14° pitch, 188×20mm motor) were taken into account; in that case, its air movement/performance would probably be about that of most normal K55 types. Even based on specs and dimensions alone, there is no way this thing performs like a pre-2002 Hunter Original and better than the current one (52" blade span, 15° pitch, 210×20mm oil bath motor, about 210 RPM on high (avg), rated approx. 7,560 CFM). Better yet, say this fan's medium was between 120 and 130 RPM. Again given the aforementioned specs, this fan would probably put out around 4000-4500 CFM by modern residential CFM testing measures. Now, this is a perfect example of the variance in information due to the differences between older and modern CFM testing measures; this is most notably seen, it seems, in higher end product of that time. It also seems as though information provided by these older testing measures, as ceiling fans drop in air movement and move further down in quality and price, would actually be relatively close to what would be said by today's testing measures on the same product.

For example, my Hampton Bay Sauterne (specs: 54" blade span, 14° pitch, 188×18mm motor, wide, beveled edge blades, approx. 160 RPM on high) in my family room has an owner's manual claiming it moves 6,608 CFM on high speed. While this is using older testing measures like your fan, this statistic is likely much closer to the fan's actual performance (I'm no CFM tester, but I'd say that the Sauterne puts out about 6100-6300 CFM, solid for a fan it's size). Another example: the fan in the office (Hampton Bay dragonfly that I don't like and want gone; specs: 52" blade span, about a 12° pitch, unknown motor, approx. 170 RPM on high) has an owner's manual claiming it moves 5,200 CFM on high speed. Again, older testing measures here, but this statistic seems almost dead on, as it feels like it puts out about what is claimed.

Well the copyright in the Owners Manual makes sense. I remember Hampton Bay having some higher end models that I can remember but don't recall ever seeing since then from when I was a kid and Home Depot first came out in our area. That PINNACLE warranty reminds me of some interesting models like the Redington II's being a quality fan for their price point and a home center.
