So I'm 23 now and just graduated from college. I've never lived away from home but have an opportunity for an apartment Anyone have any suggestions as I am kind of nervous if I do decide to move in to the apartment. Feel free to throw in your situation of where you live for some General Chat

I'd advise against renting.. If you're in a position where you're not happy where you are or you want to get away from a situation etc. and that's all you can afford, its not an absurd option.. However, renting is never that good of a financial move, I'd wait until you have enough to invest in a permanent place..

The rent is extremely cheap though $550 a month + heating oil in the winter. (Electric, DirecTV, and internet included). which is right around what property taxes cost per year. The place is waterfront and basically like a small house. Has a private dock and all. I'm getting married within a year and a half so that is adding to why I would need to move lol.

Its also a family deal with my Grandmom who we get along great and shes been very good to current renters before and allows me to do most of the repair work so I know it will all work out great.
She said she might drop the wi-fi but I said that I could pick it up since its such a great deal.
Hopefully some fans will make it to the place once I get in there.

Unfortunately getting an internet connection alone may not be that cheap,, usually you only get the deals when you get all three services from the provider..

We had everything bundled with Comcast/Xfinity... Then they jumped the prices up again so we swapped it over to DirecTV. The Internet is now $50 alone and DirecTV is $40 compared to $170 to equivalent service with Comcast.

Whenever there is a storm or a cloudy day the signal is constantly clipping and sometimes drops all together.. I'd imagine the Internet and phone would be the same way.. Are they reliable?

My parents have had Directv since 2001 and its outstanding!! No problems at all. When it snows we have to just dust off the little receiver.
The Internet there with Comcast isn't as reliable as my Verizon Internet thats for sure!
The Phone there if I decide to go with it would have to be Verizon which is very reliable what stinks though is for their most basic package its like $30 a month which too me is kind of steep since I have my cell phone even though I prefer a landline.
The other option is getting the Comcast/Xfinity phone.. The only person I know with it is my aunt but its horrendous!!

My grandparents have Comcast, and I notice when talking to them over the telephone every so often I'll just stop hearing them for a few seconds.. and I know its not the phones, they've got a good set of Unidens I recommended to them which I've used for years and years with no problems..
I wish we could get Verizon where I'm at.. Sure its more expensive, but reliability pays for itself.. For the amount of time I spend on the phone, $30 is fine with me, that's just over a dollar/day..not that unreasonable.. Numerous times I've went to use my land phone, and discovered the service was either temporarily dropped, or there was too much static on the line to even dial out.. Although I rarely use my cell-phone, its Verizon based and its worked every time I've gone to use it.. Something's wrong when a wireless phone is more reliable than a land service..

My aunts goes out and once it was out for a wek and comcast came and dug this giant hole in her yard to replace a cable and left all the dirt there. They once fixed her neighbors cable by disconnecting hers and left...
Needless to say I'm not a fan of Comcast.
I look at it as if I still have a Basic Phone come next year I'll go for it in regards to getting the Landline.

They've come out here too and 'fixed' my problems by doing pointless things inside my house, as if the issue with their service is situated in how I have the house wired.. yeah right.. they have no idea what they're talking about.. I have Charter.. They're even worse than Comcast..
99% of my calling is done on the landline.. I'd drop the cell-phone or the TV service before the landline, neither of those I really use anymore.. I used to use the television quite a bit when I first got one of those DVR things.. but since all the programs are on the computer now, I find myself connecting my computer to the television set and watching from the computer most of the time..

I hate talking on the cell phone. People think I'm nuts but thats the truth! I get the same reactions when people find out why they can't send me a text-message.. nobody in my generation still has a landline phone anymore..
