They aren't fluorescent, but this still seems the most appropriate place to put it.
Picked up 2 vintage light fixtures from the side of the road today..they have cloth wire so must be at least 60s or earlier..pretty nice fixtures..will look great in the fan room once cleaned up in place of what I have now..also got a brass chandelier from the 90s. Pictures (excuse the mess, next week is cleanup-week for me):

hey Jordan That last light is a great find! i wouldn't mind that in my dinning room. I have a old table lamp that is a rooster crowing with the pipe coming out of his head up to the socket. I've looked for another to make a pair but haven't found another good one.

Update on these lights: The first one in the lantern shape is hung and working.. Its the newer of the two, its got regular wire covered in cloth, probably from the 80s..The other light has real cloth wire and is too frayed to use.. will have to rewire that one before its installed.. since then I came across a fixture I liked even better at a tag sale so I bought it and hung that in the time being, so that second light has been put into storage and is a project for another time.. Cool! I have my own share of vintage lighting. Lets see some pictures!

I could see it looking good in a dining room, but since its only one bulb it would probably be better suited for a hallway or foyer.
