Lately a trend has emerged of using the forum's "tag" feature (typing the @ symbol followed by a user's name) to call another user out for some alleged offense such as trolling. This is abuse of the tag feature and will not be tolerated. We have asked repeatedly that if you have a problem with another member for any reason, please handle it directly with that member through private messaging or let us (moderators/administrators) know what is going on. Posting public drama on the board is bad enough; going a step further and publicly calling them to the thread in question is unacceptable.
Effective immediately, anyone who tags another member to call him or her out when the situation should be handled otherwise is an automatic 3-day ban on the first offense. Further action will be taken if the activity continues.
Please help us out by reporting any post in which one member tags another to handle a problem instead of doing it privately.
The forum rules have been updated to include this clause.
Thanks!

Hmmm, maybe I should see if I can remove this feature.. It really serves no purpose here, that I can think of..

I could see it being effective such as in if someone posts an eBay or Craigslist ad for a fan of particular interest to one of our members. Like anything else, people can abuse stuff to start drama and that's what we want to avoid.

I have never used it. Other people have tagged me before but yeah at least I could stand to have it removed.

I've seen that a few times, I thought people were just writing that because that's what they do on social media when referring to someone. I didn't realize it actually had a functionality. Sure you have, you do it to me all the time (not maliciously).

you have to type in the person's username, not their display name. For example, to tag Dan Neuman, i would type in "@spiffy".

Then I would be " Jordan U", which would explain why I didn't get any notification when I was tagged. Update: I put my username there and it changed to my display name in red?

It does that automatically, to get not to do that you put a character between @ and your username. So you're @(skaterdude12).
