There's been a lot of theories about Kmart phasing out due to too much competition from other stores like Target and WalMart. While I could see this happening, I hope it doesn't because I prefer Kmart over those other stores, especially WalMart. Sears Hardware I think will be fine. While there is the competition of Lowes and Home Depot, Sears seems to do a pretty good business still.

I don't even shop at Target and Walmart I'll go for some things like spray paint and Wrangler Jeans but that is it. Sears would probably be fine and similar to JCPenney closing unprofitable stores and they probably would have downsized to omitting clothes like they probably will do if they don't end up liquidating. However, when they merged with Kmart and took on all of that nightmare of a company with Eddie Lampert running the place with no idea how to do it, they are now in this really horrendous mess. Whats a shame and really annoys me, is Sears could have become Amazon.. They had the catalog which is essentially what Amazon is in a digital age. They had the distribution centers and the real estate to make Sears be stores and "showrooms" to test out the products you could buy online. However they quit the catalog in 1993 (I believe) and Amazon beat them to it.
