I found this pretty early Toshiba fan on Kijiji about two days ago and it was very close to me so I went to get it yesterday. It was a steal, only 10$ for this one.
I remember seeing something like this in an old clipping from a Simpsons-Sears flyer I found online that was dated of June 1970. It showed a Toshiba desk fan along with a lot of Torcans and the very first Seabreeze Cool-Sweep. It was the most expansive fan on the page. Now that I would need it I cannot find it back online. There is indeed a shopping mall very close to where this fan was located that have a Sears that used to be back in the days merged with Simpsons.
It's the oldest Toshiba I've seen around here so far. Surprisingly all the base and the neck is made of thick metal. The grills are very dangerous and spaced. I can stick most of my fingers through the spokes quite easily and I have big fingers. It's got a big opening near the neck on the back grill. The back grill is swirled instead of regular spokes. It's got an open center so they made the moyeu more decorative and chrome. It's the first Japanese fan I see around here with an open center.
It has an outer twisted wire that comes out of the neck and goes into the motor as the neck is very thin at the top. Just like my 40 cm Toshiba it's got an integrated wire attach on the main wire to tie the wire like I did on the picture.
The panel have a faux bois finish but it's printed on metal and not plastic like we usually see. The knobs are plastic. The dark color on the center is actually very dark transparent blue even though it looks almost black.
I love the speeds. The low is very quiet and clam, the medium on this one is slower than my two other Toshibas so it's actually a perfect medium and not a crazy one. It blows a very good amount of air and the oscillator works flawlessly.
I love how tall the neck is.
If someone could confirm the age of this fan it would be appreciated.
