I don't get how the fans are mounted NEXT to the box? This is more of a proper bump, asking a real new question. Those aren't junction boxes though. It's a commonly seen thing in numerous countries overseas, where power is supplied via conduits and the fan is hung directly from the building structure next to the power supply. Often it's concrete construction that the electrical work is added to, so it pretty much has to be exposed in this manner.

Yes, Jean, I do think you're right on that. I didn't even think about it being an outlet here, we see that in the US sometimes of course as well.
