I haven't been to a Menards, though I do think we have one somewhere around here.. I haven't walked into a Lowes in years.. I do remember those days the display model sometimes was a different fan than what what was in the boxes.. I remember seeing View Fans at Kmart back in the late 1980s, and the fan hung on display was a small 36" spinner with a lower canopy and a blender fan type switch housing. I still remember looking for the box for that fan on display, and could not find it, so than I figured that was the fan on display for the View Fans. I remember asking the person in that department to where that fan is that's on display. I remember he asking, do I want that exact fan. I should have said YES..

BTW I don't think Hunter ships their fans motorless, HD probably just wires up the striped wire for the light kit. Only HB ships their fans like this.

Bizarre. Display fans without motors? I'll have to see if I can get my hands on one of those.
But yes, Lowe's still displays working fans, and they'll sell discontinued models at a discount. As much as I usually hate anything Harbor Breeze, Lowe's had a nifty model that worked something like a Rotaire: a 25" three-bladed wood fan rotates slowly in a downward conical form. Only downside is that the three-speed switch is on top of the motor housing. It was around $100, and I liked it but wasn't going to pay that. Then it went in clearance at $25... but they only had the display model, less shorter downrods, wall control, box and paperwork, so it cost $15. And that thing is great in the hot summer!

I always have hated how crammed and unorganized Home Depot was on their displays. Sounds like they are cheapening up since they are having their display fans motor-less....

Sorry for the bump, but this fan is installed after 2011 and is clearly not motorless.
