Pics! Showed closer shots of the motor to show the finish that came out from under all the grime. SMC #1: Pieced it into a complete fan other than the blades, which I'm sure will be lined up in future. For now used W-52 blades. Works pretty well other than the bearings, which I expected to be bad regardless. Hunter #1: Can anyone tell for sure what model these are just by the motor? The bottom plates look like Summer Breeze but so do a lot of other fans from Hunter. Seems like blades were usually the main difference. Anywho, cleaned up pretty well, still shiny underneath the grime and I repaired the light kit and used what was left of the original globes. Used spare blades I had from a Colonial or something. Hunter #2: By far the best of the bunch so far. I believe I have have unintentionally removed some of the brass finish over the entire fan and light kit in the cleaning process, which is weird because I only used water and light soap. With that, most scratches it had suffered were removed with whatever layer came off.

Nice finds, Cole! Love the U-52! BTW, what did the labels on the GE vents say? I have a thing for GE vents.

I kinda liked the light kit on the SMC - did it look too big or something?
Anyway, they look great, and I'm glad the fans work for the most part! ;D

Sorry, I didn't look that closely since I was going to part them out. I kinda liked the light kit on the SMC - did it look too big or something? Anyway, they look great, and I'm glad the fans work for the most part! ;D No, both light kits from the SMCs were about identically rusted out, so I tossed them. They would've required a complete rewire for me to even feel they were safe (because they'd been so wet) and even then they'd be covered in rust spots. I coulda put another one on but I didn't bother because huggers with big lights are just sooo cumbersome to work with. But yeah they're looking good. I've only tested the one SMC thus far and haven't hooked up any of the others but I'm sure they'll work fine. Haven't even touched the stack motor things yet since I know they're not working as is.

Haven't gotten to them yet, Dan. After Christmas break wrapped up I haven't even had time to look at the forum, let alone the fans. They're the next priority though.

Finally making a little bit of progress on the stack motor fans. I took them apart, mainly to get at the flywheels, and because they're a very unusual spacing my dad is going to attempt to make a new metal piece to attach the blade mounting ring with the part that fits over the shaft. Hopefully it works, because I'm really not looking forward to searching out new ones. I'll be replacing the bearings in both, for sure one runs but the other is so locked up I haven't been able to tell but I'm sure it'll be fine.
I'm pretty much thinking I'll have to paint both, the finish is SO far gone there's literally nothing I can do there to fix it up, it's literally peeling off. Anyone have any suggestions for a color? It's a long way off before I'll even be thinking about paint but suggestions are welcome now. I just don't know what to do with an ornate fan color wise, AB and PB seem to be the most traditional and both of those are not possibilities here.

Glad you're making some progress! I vote for painting them white if they must be painted.

I was thinking the same thing, guys. Either white or black to keep it simple, and black seems like a cool twist. Actually, I've done a bit of cleaning, and some of the brass is good under the dirt and grease, but there's really no color scheme I can do with just a few good parts.
