So I went shopping today at the ginormous new Wal-Mart supercenter here in Winchester (we have two Wal-Marts, the huge old one and the ginormous new one). I went out to the garden department, and saw that they have three of the "Big Ass Fans" (http://www.bigassfans.com) like you sometimes see in Hummer dealerships.
First off, let me just say that these things scare me. They don't scare me in the creepy Spider-of-Death-descending-for-the-hypnotic-kill way that the Enigma does. Instead, these scare me in the bunny-rabbit-about-to-meet-his-maker-courtesy-of-the-lawnmower-blade way. Seriously, these things are so big and look so much like lawnmower blades.
Anyhow...two of them are mounted at a reasonable height--about 20'. But the third one, which is right inside the entrance, is mounted at 12'...SCARY!!!
They were going about 75 RPM, which I guess is their highest speed, and MAN do they move air! They put an Original (even one in a small bedroom, like I have) to shame.
I'll go take some pics when I have time.

The garden center at my Walmart has those industrial 20" wall fans. Inside there's an Industrial hanging over the photo center, and several 5-blade, 42'' fans at the subway. They were mounted on long downrods, on high, with no vents, and shook a lot. It said Anvil on the switch housing. At the old Walmart, there was an industrial at the photo center also, and they had the same fan as my aunt's pictured here, but in white, and long downrods. They mounted on a ceiling like 12' up, but the downrods lowered them through this ceiling like thing at 9'. It was kind of like a drop ceiling with the panels removed.

A lot of wal-marts built in the late 90s had those white builder fans in the food courts. The one near me replaced them with 36" HRS industrials in 2003, only to replace them with regencies when it became a subway last year (I now possess two of the industrials). The wal-mart in Plam Coast, FL has two of those builder fans and a 42" lasko with a light kit in the food court. In tyhe same store, I even saw one of the builder fans in the fan display itself. Newer wal-marts had crappy 42" banvils in the sub-ways, one in my area had them for just a few months before they were replaced with regencies.

Imagine what one of those things would do if you only installed 5 of the blades.

Does the WalMart with the Big-Ass fans have other fans installed?
