To my knowledge they are not available in the US, despite their benefits. Anyway, Argentina uses 220 volts - 50Hz. The mounting bracket would work on any voltage.

I finally got theses two Westinghouse five speed controllers that have been on Kijiji for two months. I got them for five dollars for both. They are not easy to find because they are not sold separately. They come with the brushed nickel Westinghouse Industrial currently sold at Réno-Dépôt. They could be as old as 2002 but more realistically they should be from 2009-2014. They are in brand new never used condition. Just like vintage controllers of the same kind they are pretty thick and heavy. The knob is very pleasant to turn, it's not too stiff and loud or too soft without any clicks. It's just perfectly in the middle.

I hope that compared with many other controllers of this type they can give a good range of speeds. I haven't tried them yet.

It will be interesting to see how the speeds of these compare to the speeds of an older one. I would think they're probably about the same.

It will be interesting to see how the speeds of these compare to the speeds of an older one. I would think they're probably about the same. The old late 1970's Evergo controller one I have is one of the worst I've seen. The speeds are all very fast and it even adds a buzz to fans, not as much as a variable speed control but still normally transformers controllers should be as quiet as capacitor controllers and not add any noise. The two 4 Saisons controllers I have, one from 1980 and the other from 1982 are some of the best I've seen. They make fan run very quiet and can make larger and even medium size fans turn pretty slow on the lowest setting. On larger fans I get the same speeds as on a capacitor control so pretty slow on speed 5. I'm expecting theses Westinghouse to make fan run quiet but with a normal lowest speed even on larger fans.

I noticed that I never updated this thread about the performance of these Westinghouse 5-speed controllers. Unfortunately like I expected they give a bad range of speeds to fans with all fast speeds but that is to be expected with these controllers.

Here are some more ceiling fan controllers I got. I got this Canarm 3-speed slider controller last year in August 2014 for only two dollars on Kijiji, new, never used. I totally forgot to post it. It's 1,25 amps. It gives a slightly faster low speed than I get on most of my other controllers of this kind but it's often practical to have a control like this for very large fans or very stiff ones so that at least the 3rd speed is not dead. It was an older overstock of a person that was selling many of these all new. Notice the much older Canarm design of the package with the cool Mistral Plus. Canarm have used this design between about 1998 to 2006. There is a date in the instruction booklet that seems to be 2003 so that makes perfect sense. I definitely remember seeing them at Rona around this time. Today I got this rotary Leviton 4-speed controller that we have been seeing in stores for probably two years now. I was eager to get one. This one is 1,5 amps and just like the Canarm above gives a faster lowest speed than I get with my Lutron, Copper Wiring Devices and Westinghouse controllers. The knob is very pleasant to turn. It's not stiff like the rotary Copper Wiring Devices controller I have. It does not come with a plate.

Today I got this rotary Leviton 4-speed controller that we have been seeing in stores for probably two years now. I was eager to get one. In general, I've always preferred Leviton over Cooper Wiring Devices, as their products appear to be more rugged.

From what I've seen from Home Depots around here they have Hampton Bay and Hunter controls. This Leviton control is sold at Canadian Tire, Rona and Réno-Dépôt.
Leviton also have the light dimmer equivalent to this. The button pushes for on/off.

Rona and Réno-Dépôt had Copper Wiring Devices in about 2010 and before. I bought my rotary 3-speed control of that brand in 2009. By 2011 they sold mostly Leviton again.
