History and Some Fun Facts About Halsey Enterprise Co., Ltd.
The Owners are a team of Father and Son named Mr. Ching Tan Lee and Benjamin Lee they both speak English and Spanish in addition to their native Mandarin. Benjamin's Son will began studies at Harvard next semester. Halsey has been involved in 3-separate indirect lawsuits in the U.S. in the last 25-years involving fans that have fallen resulting in 2-minor injuries. On each separate occasion, the fans have been custom manufacture for U.S. Brands. The most recent incident occurred on April 2003 when a Star/Starlet fan with a defective hanger bracket fell on Tillie Morris causing her to loose balance and falling hitting her head and face. (The fan was installed in her bathroom when it fell. It's unknown which of the two models was involved.)
Halsey has made some of the last Homesteads, 20-models for Casablanca between 1992 and 1998, FASCO, Casa Vieja, Craftmade's Warbirds series, Gulf Coast, NICOR, Davimport (before it became Quorum), Quorum, Monte Carlo, Some Emerson, Some Minka, Modern Fan Co., Some Regency, Some Concord fans before bankruptcy and Canada's Kendal Lighting. Some of these brands have also had other suppliers to complete their model line ups.
Halsey's older products came exclusively from their old facility in Taiwan's famous Ceiling Fan Kingdom town of Taichung where a number of other famously known companies have factories too. Some ceiling fans imported to the U.S. are still manufactured there. They built a 360,000 Sq. ft. Factory in China in 2006 which required all New molds and equipment per Chinese laws in order to get tax credit incentives. The New Chinese factory has a series of train rails that connect Halsey with their suppliers neighbors. Including but not limited to a foam maker which products are pushed from their location into Halsey's packing section.
Innovative construction of this factory includes a single panel of concrete floor instead of separate sections, T5 Sunlight-like light fixtures which are automatically dim down or turn off completely depending on the brightness of the day. These T5 light fixtures were chosen for the bright accuracy they deliver which is essential to detect any imperfections on any of the production process lines before shipment. The factory also use reclaimed water. With all of their advantages when it comes to manufacturing, Halsey still uses a suànpán which is a Chinese abacus to keep track of the overall production but use computers for CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and shipments.
The first time CAD was use for ceiling fan design was in 1985 when Homestead use the back then all-new McIntosh computer to design the Geneva HomeStar HS6000 and it's baby model the HS7000. CAD because an industry standard afterwards.
Heavy equipment usage such as forklifts and cranes to carry out tasks is limited, most tasks are performed by a team of workers in order to save energy., All the ceiling fans produce for all the brands, are store in the same single warehouse divided by self-made sections until they are ready to be shipped. An order can take from 2-weeks up to 45-days to be fulfilled and shipped. Halsey ships an average of 12- 40-ft. containers a month to the U.S. Each 40-ft. container can accommodate up to 1,100 units depending on the actual size of the cartons. 80% of the ceiling fans made by Halsey are shipped to the U.S.
Halsey has been known for it's superior attention to detail and quality by many U.S. designers that wish to have their products produced overseas. They do not produce promotional fans for mass-merchants if the price and components use will be a final cost issue. They do not produce the foam, carton, literature, blades, Pull Switches, Capacitors, Remote Controls, Couplers, Downrods and glass shades for any fan they manufacture., however they do produce the light kits. Their curved-cut style blades found on their own fans are a trademark-style known to Halsey. Their Blade Arms have unique ID numbers such as 750AO 750SLO 740AWO,etc. They also ID custom order blade arms with the customer's number and logo if the customer choose to have it that way.
Their own designed fans are also custom-manufactured which means they do not have ready-on-hand stock for shipment. All of their own proprietary designs can be ordered in any color, control type, motor size, number of blades and blade pitch and can be altered even further for any customer specifications.
The lithograph art found on all the boxes for all their sold to Dan's Fan City fans are all their own designs. The Word "P Performance Series" found on Gulf Coast Fans motors boxes and blade sets is a registered trademark owned by them and can be seen on older Casa Vieja fans as well.
The codes found on their fans; HC-1131, HC-1121, 820AL-G, 513S-G, HC-1993, HF-1992 etc. are not model numbers but manufacturing codes of what base fan they will use to finalized an OEM fan. Earlier in 2008 they had a problem where the Pink speed wire coming from the motor into the MOLEX and later AMP connectors was being placed in the wrong spot making the fan dead until it was replace to it's rightful spot. As of 2010, this problem has been officially resolved.
Halsey is the original innovator of the detachable switch cup which is slowly being adopted by other manufacturers. In addition to Ceiling Fans, Halsey also manufactures a small selection of traditional-style Light Kits and Fitters.
