Its that 9 Speed Transmission from what I've heard. Rumor had it they were going to sell like 300,000 next year or something. The Grand Cherokees have the 8-speed with the crazy shifter that springs back to the center position once you shift into gear... you push it forward to shift to a lower position (P, R, N, D, or S) or pull it back to shift to a higher position (P, R, N, D, or S). When in 'S' ('Sport'), you can use paddle shifters on the steering wheel to "shift" (not really) manually. I think in 2016 they switched to a more "typical" design because people were getting confused about how to operate it... you also have to press a button on top of the shifter when you move the shifter to prevent you from accidentally shifting it out of Park. The Cherokees and Renegades have the 9-speed that uses a more "typical" shifter. Now the real trouble is the "rotary" shifter where you turn a knob to select P, R, N, or D or S ("Sport")... my boss has a 2014 RAM 1500 with that shifter and he and I both hate it... and that's in a TRUCK, where you'd actually WANT to have a traditional shifter... my dad and I had a 2015 Chrysler 300 for a rental last year that had that shifter, and he couldn't figure it out at first. Bottom line is, Chrysler wants to be the FIRST to do things... but just because you're the FIRST doesn't mean you're the BEST... something else will come along and be BETTER.

The fact they put a rotary shifter in a truck is just stupid. I like the column shifter the best in a truck although my Toyota has it in the center console which I'm not a fan of!

That is all just another reason to like manual even more.. They're all more or less the same,, no annoying buttons,, no confusing interface,, and best of all no cheesy electronics to fail or cause problems..

One thing I hate more than anything in most brand new automatics is the turn knob or push button gear selector. I like my column shift automatics.

Yeah because it frees up space in the center stack for more storage or a third front seat... the only thing you gotta worry about is the shift linkage... my dad has a 2001 F-550 7.3 Powerstroke as another one of his work trucks and the shift linkage got messed up... he installed a brand new tranny (his is a 4-speed auto, shift-on-the-column), and in the process of having his worker install it, he also had them repair the shift linkage... of course being a work truck the shifter was jerked up and down a lot without care, which my dad has since reprimanded his employees about.

So we placed a deposit on the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited... we're definitely going to get it and should have it by the end of the week.

Nope, it has a 3.6L V6... great power, puts out 292 HP vs. my dad's old 4.7L V8 that put out only 235 HP... we just picked it up earlier today and love it... the V6 puts out a muscular sound for what it is and is quite efficient.

Well it's supposed to get in the low 20's (my dad's old Jeep got 14 MPG) and it has good power and shifts well with the ZF 8-soeed transmission in it. 292 HP and it is way more powerful than my dad's old 4.7L.

Bleh. V6 isnt worth it, especially with that V8 area fuel economy..low 20s, really? I can get 25mpg with my 4.0L Ranger. I could get almost 28 with my '97 Crown Vic.

You must drive very carefully... I've never heard of any of those vehicles getting that high MPG unless someone drives them very carefully. For a newer mid-size SUV I have to say the low 20's pretty good fuel economy.
