Well, I'm off to El Paso, TX to retrieve the table fan I've grown up with in the summers during the last 14 years of my life. I won't be on this forum very much until probably Saturday..or Sunday..or possibly Monday. I won't shoot video of it anytime soon though. So, bye! Chris

Actually- after further inspection today, it is a la 12" model- and this sucker is filthy. The bearings are also stiffer than a board. So I'll be cleaning the fan tomorrow. But, you'll never guess what gold I struck today. It's a Lakewood (KMart) P-223 (pics later-you might need to correct me)..metal blades, stiff bearings, growls with that uber awesome sound on startup. And I got ahold of my grandfather's Champion two-speed box fan. More pics and vids to come soon. But all three fans are getting cleaned tomorrow. Yay!!!!!

I thought he did, but I was wrong. Of course, I could be wrong about that- he did have dementia before he died. And possibly Alzheimer's. So he could have forgotten to take care of it last year.. It is brown actually. It just needs work. I'll be shooting video and photos of it (and the other fans) today, so look for those uploads on Monday! Chris

I took apart the fan today. This isn't really a PSC (well, okay it is, but) motor, rather, the motor and its windings are all encased in a sort of cage like shell. Pretty interesting. I don't know if this fan can be oiled, but the bearings are stiff, and when the fan is ran on low, it doesn't move a whole lot of air...on top of that, if oscillating, the fan slows down pretty badly. My grandmother on the other side of town doesn't have Zoom Spout or grease..so it looks like when I get back home (and upload video), I'll be tearing it apart again to work on it. I ran out of memory, so I couldn't take any video of my Champion (not Century) two-speed box fan or the KMart-Lakewood box fan (which smells-the motor- when running...it probably hasn't been oiled in decades). The Lakewood needs a serious new paint job and I'm considering on repainting it terra-cotta orange or cherry red...right now it's a light baby blue, and I don't like that color. Ick. The Champion fan runs purrfectly though. By the way, does anybody know how to remove the blades on the Lakewood? They are metal-three wing style, and I couldn't figure how to get it off, if at all possible. And I had the model wrong. I confused P-223 with P-25 This is what the fan looks like (but this isn't actually my fan, this is one I found on the net) images.fixya.com/L/Lakewood/177x150/22451764.JPG&imgrefurl=http://www.fixya.com/support/p127063-lakewood_p_25_box_fan&usg=__vl7vje_pBw3cu_Hw3dX21-mZYaY=&h=150&w=177&sz=7&hl=en&start=0&tbnid=46hP3600iOiIqM:&tbnh=119&tbnw=141&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dlakewood%2Bp-25%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26biw%3D1024%26bih%3D703%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=168&vpy=115&dur=20&hovh=120&hovw=141&tx=106&ty=89&ei=yYBUTKzZCIK88gajj_H5Ag&page=1&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0

I'm surprised the hotel wifi could handle this load, but here's my second video of the Galaxy fan. My first video of the fan: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl3hcZXBmhsAnd here's some pics of my new fans: Galaxy: Box fans: Lakewood and Champion No videos of the box fans for now. It'll be a long time before that happens unfortunately. I ran out of memory, and won't have time tomorrow to shoot video of them.

NICE! I'm glad you got the Champion, I've never seen anything like that.
The Galaxy is nice, I've not seen one with that badge in the middle of the cage before to my knowledge.
Great find on the Lakewood, those are powerhouses. Yours looks about like one of mine, broken handle and in need of new paint. As for taking the blade off, there is a set screw on the hub near the shaft that you need an allen wrench and a lot of elbow grease to get loose, but that's as far as I've ever gotten. All of mine have the blade stuck on the shaft, and IDK the safest way to get it off.

What I'm having a hard time with is the Galaxy motor. The screws are stubborn. I've tried a drill (battery-powered) but the drill just doesn't like it.
Sigh..what now? The bearings need serious cleaning.

Well, I got back to Rio Rancho this afternoon. After un-packing, I immediately went to work on the fan. I spent two hours using a tooth pick to scoop old grease out. I think it was factory original- I also think this is the only thing my Grandpa neglected on the fan. So, after putting Castrol Wheel-Bearing grease on the gears, and lightly oiling the front bearing (anybody know how to do the back?), the fan runs much smoother. I just need to clean out my memory cards so I can shoot video of the fan.
About using Zoom Spout on oscillator gears- grease is thick oil basically, and therefore doesn't spill out. It also fills in slight imperfections in the teeth of the gears, where as oil does not. Grease is also easier to clean out- with oil you have use soap and water- which is not ideal in some cases. On the other side, grease is like gum for fans..it's "chewy", and thus is a little harder to spin through. Using the right kind of grease to lubricate areas of the fan where heat is expected to be high loosens up fresh grease a little bit, but it doesn't act like oil.
I recommend using grease where oil is generally not feasible.

I love the chamion box fan. How well does it perform? Think you can make a video once you have a chance to do so
