Anything made past 1985 is pretty much trash in my opinion, other than some series of Hunter ceiling fans and some SMC ceiling fans.. I like durable "Heavy", something made of "Quality"... But to each there own and what ever floats your boat...

Adam, i's say past 1994-5 I got fans from 1989- 1993 who were very good in terms of quality
The only pre-'85 fans i got were industrials, and they were very-very good

But to each there own and what ever floats your boat... I find there is no set year where I can personally cut off what is crap and what's not, it varies an incredible amount by company. Emerson is still putting out a product I would buy, given I was in the market for a new fan and had the money. In the late 80s I'd buy a Homestead, in the 90s I'd buy a Casablanca. They were still quality fans, that's why I've found it hard in the past to say "This year ___ is the year fans went crappy."

Cole technically you're right.. There are some spinners from 86" that are neat, but also some things had a longer self life than others too.. I have a five blade Codep in the gallery from the year 1985 and I can say it's pretty junky... But it was between the years 1984-86 when fans started being made out of cheaper materials, very few even as far back to 1983.. Even electronics during those years started being made much cheaper quality.. Remember that was the age when Recycling began, and now we live in a world of "it breaks - throw it away", which killed the service industry.. There were even ceiling fan repair shops in the early 80s and part of the 90s..
When you see a chunky old GE Gent or any standard ceiling fan that's heavy duty, GET IT... They're becoming scarce..

I'm sad to see the amount of junk people are buying..
They trash old hunter and casablanca Just because of the color, and they replace them with harbor Breeze, hampton bays ans other crap.
But i think 80's fans were the best, And i'm glad each time someone comes in the store, and bought a fan They are happy with the airflow and quality of the fan, and they don't buy cheap fan...

Ya, people care about how things match with the decor, seems to be more about style these days.. That's good people still actually buy 1980s style ceiling fans and re use them.. I wonder if people actually are able to mount these fans seeing how something is usually missing when it comes to the mounting hardware..

The majority of the fans i got came with the mounting hardware, so i put it with the fans when i sell one, When i don't have the mounting, i have some spare that i can use, or i just sell the fan like that, and i refer the people to the nearest renovation center
And people don't care about the quality or the airflow. and i hate to see craiglist or kijiji links, when they said ''we replaced this white fan with a brown one'' was it necessary?
