as I mentioned in the ebay thred I just got 2 slumber quiet casablanca zephyr motors. one of which needs work done on its speed control. the right motor is the one with the damaged speed control. I drew a schematic of the SQ circut by tracing the connections on the good board. I Went to local electronics repair place and they ordered the new transistor and new resistors that I need for the broken control. You could use a single layer pull but it would need to be 1, 2+3, 3, I think. Hell I'm confused. that is correct, but true value does not sell that type of pull chain switch.

I have a real SQ schematic somewhere.

The electronic parts that I needed to repair the Variquiet board arrived and I repaid the board so now it works. I had ordered a 4speed pullchain switch and bord as well as a bright brass switch cap (plain I wanted fancey/ornate but they did not have bright brass in stock) and victorial sideband from casablanca. I used the 4speed switch to convert the moss wf to 4 speed as my parents wanted a slower low speed. the side band and switch cap were for the other casablance motor. the moter has the canopy, top plate and bottem plate from a bright brass litex newoleans classin on it. I did not have the litex's sideband or a bright brass casablanca switch cap which is why I ordered those parts. I got the 4 speed circut board because I needed spare capacitors. I decided to call the customize zephyr a "NewOrleans Zephtorian".

Will they be restocking the PB ornate caps?
Let me know how long the rebuilt SQ lasts. When I rebuilt them using the same parts, they usually lasted days or weeks. When I upped the wattage of the pot and resistors they lasted a few years. But always ultimately failed.

How much did the 4 speed pullchain cost you? I'm looking for a few. I guess since it was from Casablanca it cost an arm and a leg?

Casablanca parts are fairly reasonable, however if I understand correctly he bought the whole kit.

Well if you don't repace the transistor it will always fail. This is true. What transistor did you find that crosses?

I would reccomend getting the switch only and cutting off the pc-board connect and using a combintation of capacitors that give you the speeds that you want.

John's suggestion is sound, that would work. You'd have to experiment with the capacitor values for particular fans. An L-1-2-3-4 pullchain would be easier (particularly for fans with coil taps) if we can find a source.
John, I'll have to look that # up on Mouser. The only local electronic supply house closed a couple years ago, I havent bought parts since unless Radio Shack had them.

You got the 4-speed pull chain and chunky switch cap from Casablanca by ordering these as parts?
I did not noticed that one of the Zephyr was chrome.
The idea of using a housing of a Litex New Orleans for the Zephyr motor is good.

I don't believe that Zephyr was originally chrome. I think he did that himself.

I put a housing on the chorme zephyr motor and made blades for it. note that the blades are attached to the top of the fly wheel. one of the blades: the motor: motor + blades: I don't believe that Zephyr was originally chrome. I think he did that himself. correct I refinsh the switch housing.
