Really, I like it with the patina. It makes it look antique!

It actually looks almost copper. It looks nice on this fan. But this fan in PB would also looks gorgeous with 5 light on it.

The fan does run, and goes at the same speed as a modern Palmetto (such as those over the bars at Claim Jumper restaurants) and they do put out a mild breeze. More than anything, they bring down heat generated up in the skylight by the sun.

Oh, sorry, you meant the cane ones.
I would assume they're not that effective. But I'm sure they still move some air. As Jonas stated, they mainly use them on low, presumably for ambiance.

A few more locations with old Casa belt fans with hub-mount blades: Somewhere called "Mie N Yu" in Georgetown, Washington, DC has Casablanca belt fans that have no switch hub or lights underneath. The Pasta Factory, Columbia, Missouri has fans with lights below, on the type of hub with an ornate top AND bottom. Pasta Factory moved to a new building in the past while and took the fans along. Something in New York called the Double Crown has some fans that look like an oversimplified Casablanca, but not a Woolen Mill or an antique model, and have five flywheel-mounted blades with bizarre iron lights hung below.
