Sorry for the bump, but I went to Dave & Buster's today and I saw a balloon on a blade of Hampton Bay Gazebo there: It was running on high. I managed to remove that balloon, but I had to turn it off, then turn it back on after removing that balloon. That fan is right next to a party room, and people need to be careful with balloon in public places. If I was the owner, I would have made rules about balloons like tying securely to wrist or weight, and if someone violates the rule and the balloon actually got melted to a motor, I would sue whoever violated that rule. That thing sure is getting filthy! Don't sue someone over a balloon on a fan motor, that won't get anywhere.

Not to hijack this thread... I picked up 3 fans the other day that have balloon, crayon? and string wrapped all around the motor. I'll let Dan Neuman talk about them once he gets them seeing as how they are kind of his deal. I just got keys to my new place today (just leasing), and let me say I cannot believe they gave me the keys with the fans in the condition that they were. Obviously I will be replacing all of them, I started with 2 this afternoon. I am pretty sure they have met their fate from this common problem. The Minka Aire in the living room was on a wall switch and set to high; I flipped the switch and the fan barely moved, you could hear a clearly audible straining sound. After a few flicks it broke loose but barely would spin, and upon attempting a spindown the fan stopped as soon as the switch was flipped. Also, when running the fan sounds like the birdhouse at your local zoo... just close your eyes and you're there (minus the smell). In the bedroom there was some sort of white builder fan (it got replaced earlier today) none of the upper canopy screws were attached and only the screw that allows you to twist the canopy was lightly threaded. Lastly there is a HB Gazebo in the loft, one of the blade arm screws is not attached and it grinds on the motor housing and the fan flys all over the ceiling. I need to delete some stuff from my phone so I can take videos for you guys, it was unreal. I didn't bother going to the office because they are coming down tonight/later this week. This is a great thread and I feel like the general public needs this in the form of a P.S.A. lol. Are you going to keep the HB Gazebo? The rest don't seem worth while...

The HB Gazebo is trashed pretty bad, the blades are yellowed and the rubber bushings on the motor are melted and goopy. I am not sure if the fan was previously mounted outdoors (Arizona Heat) or if it was stored in a garage or someplace hot. I may keep the Gazebo and just throw up some basic white builder fan when I move out (I doubt they would even notice). I have videos of both of the bad fans, my gf is going to email them to me in a little bit and I will start a thread.

Even if it's not in the best of condition, they are still a decent fan.
