I am pretty sure I know the answer to my own question but wanted to get some reassurance on the matter.
My church has 3 emerson cf 2052 fans mouted to a high ceiling. The fans were installed new and then left alone. I have noticed that when the fans are running at high speed they will slow down on their own. (All 3 are controlled through a circle knob outlet) They will stay at a slower speed and then speed up on their own and slow down. This process keeps repeating itself. It sounds electrical to me, has anyone else experienced this situation? Thanks Jason

This is very unusuale for a fan to do that by it self. I'm sure they were someone playing with the speed controls like Jeremy said. You said that these Emerson were controled by 5-speed wall controls? Like the kind of controls that Industrials use? When I was in Chad I had this friend that in his living room they had a plain cheap looking white Industrial 56'' with 3 metal curved blades. It had a motor similar ot a SMC Laguna but it was not a SMC it was another cheaper random Industrial. This fan had a problem with his speeds. Because I noticed they alwayse HAD to use it on speed '5' witch is the slowest.(Yes it use one of those 5-speed wall choke controls) The others speeds were just insanly TOO FAST. EVEN speed '5' was already going at like 120RPM!!!! So imagine the others speeds. And once I was at his home and the fan was spinning on speed '5' te fan started to slow down BY IT SELF. NO, nobady was playing with the control! I WAS THERE I SAW IT. :oCan someone explain that? Maybe a capacitor problem?

Try bypassing the control and see if they stay on high.

Thanks for the replies. It is indeed a weird situation. There is just one outlet that controls the fans and it's near the front so I sure no kids were playing with the switch. Dan, I am going to pass along your suggestions to church personnel. Thanks again Jason

Report back, I'm interested to see what the issue is. I've not seen 2052's in a church before. Post some pictures

I will for sure keep you updated as to how the story unfolds. The church went to central air a few years back and thus the fans do not get as much regular use as they did before.
I will try and take some pictures next time we are in that neck of the woods. The church is located in Ohio and we live in NC so I'm not sure yet the next time we will be there. Thanks again for your helpful suggestions. Jason

Hey FANatic I live in Wilmington, it is miserably hot here today. I used to live in Edenton which is about four hours north of Wilmington also. I'm familiar with the Coastal Plain areas not so much with the Piedmont and Moutain sections of the state.

Brian Hicks and Pierce Phillips both live in Butner, NC which is near to Raliegh/Durham. They are both collectors with extensive fan stock, and are rather unique individuals in diverse ways. Neither of them are frequent members of this forum although they do stop in from time to time. Both actually were some of the founding members of this group.

I thought Pierce lived right down the street from you. You're right, Henderson. Brain fart.
