There was a Phar-Mor that was less than a mile from my house and my late grandmother would frequent that place. That whole chain shut their doors in 2002. The former Phar-Mor in my area is now a store called Ollie's Bargain Outlet. www.olliesbargainoutlet.com

I remember that store, They had a Video rental store in it too. I also remember the company making the store much smaller before they went out of buisness. I think it' s an Old Navy now. The company didn't sell, they closed there doors

They did away with the video rental part a few years prior to their closing.

I remember Prange Way and Prange's. I've been told all the Montgomery Ward's are gone.

Montogomery Wards have been gone, I beleive 2002 was the year all the chains that were remaming, closed. I remember a Jefferson's, I think was also called Jefferson Ward in my area, Where my step father purchased my first ceiling fan for my room. that store closed in the mid to late 80s, and K-mart took over. That was the first and last I've ever seen of any Wards store..

i remember back when kmart was actually a pretty good store, you could have your car serviced, they had the little popcorn stands in the middle of the store and little ceasers pizza at the front, and back when Builders Square II was around with them.

I remember DIY and Forrest City Hardware stores and then a little later they got changed into Handy Andy. Anyone remember those?

I grew up in north Jersey, and we had two discount home-improvement stores, Channel and Rickel. Judging by the fact that those are both listed on the "You might be from north Jersey if you can remember..." list, I'm guessing that they were local. Both chains no longer exist. We also had Woolworth's, which didn't actually sell ceiling fans but had some cool ones installed in the store (52" Emerson 1895 series, brown). In addition, there were some cool grocery store chains--Grand Union and Edward's. As discount stores go, I also liked Caldor and Bradlees. Ames was kind of cool. We had a drugstore chain called Genovese, which was bought out by Eckerd.

There was another store in my area, which no longer exists...It was called "Big Bear PLUS" It was kinda' like a super Wal-Mart, meaning it had a grocery section as well as a department store. In the 80s they stocked Moss/Palm-air fans, and I even remember seeing a Moss WF series hanging in their fan display next to a turtle fan (like my Palm-Air/Moss turtle). There was a white miniature Moss WF there too. In the late 80s, they stocked Hunter and this other brand called Cimarron. The whole store chain folded in early January of 2004, and I purchased a white 42" Hunter Low Profile II (my grandparents now have it) when they were liquidating the store.

Our Kmart was built in 1991 and it still has the little Kmart Cafe and white 42" Originals, but not as many as it used to have and the blades on one look bent. I'm surprised they didn't put up some new ones to replace the ones that were removed.
We used to have Scotty's hardware here, they sold Encons.
Walmart used to have white Lasko 42" fans with stencil in the original 1993 snack bar. It now has a HB industrial in the photo lab and fabric depts and the HRC industrials that were in the indoor garden center have been replaced with some silver industrial spinners. They also installed them in one of the entrances. They spin really slow!

I remember DIY and Forrest City Hardware stores and then a little later they got changed into Handy Andy. Anyone remember those? Yeah, I do remember DIY. I went to one when I was in 7th grade in Boardman, OH. They sold Hunter and some other brand of fans...can't remember what. Encon perhaps? Less than a mile from my house, there was a Hardware store called Stambaugh's (anyone know anything about them?) They were a haven for some neat ceiling fans in the 1980s. I had some fans from that store from that time (the blue hugger and more to name). As for the brands, they stocked Palm-Air/Moss in the 80s and in the 90s 'til their demise in the fall of 1997 they stocked Encon, Hunter, and this brand called Pierton (cheap brand). I'm always on the lookout for fans that were sold at Stambaughs to add to my collection.
