It's funny, and I'm not joking, we literally drive past Lowes and Home Depot to get to the West Fargo Menards, but it's worth it for the good customer service and incredible prices. Actually, we've been going to the one in Moorhead, MN now because it's just up the interstate. That's opposed to driving the opposite way on the interstate for the same distance, then through busy city streets to go to the West Fargo location.

I must say, I much prefer Lowes, and I have a Harbor Breeze Springfield (aka Builder's Best). Moves air well, but the wobble pisses me off. Plus the wattage limiter is junk, even if it has a Hunter brand sticker on it. It will randomly shut off the whole light kit, or one/two bulbs for no reason, regardless if it has CFL's or incandescent. The blades are flexible, and poorly made, but there is no sag of of yet. However one of the blade irons is bent a little (by no implication of the user- it came that way), and the blades connect simply by fitting them on three rubber grommets screwed on the blade irons, and then putting an EASILY broken clip on top of the blade. YUCK. And my Dad says I can't take it down.

For me it's The Home Depot. A few reasons why I love Big Orange over Kobalt it's the Customer Service is superb at The Home Depot. The selection of products is greater, better and always at a much lower price.
In ceiling fans, Big Orange has had always the advantage due to their close relationships with actual manufacturers in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Thailand (excluding Minka which depends on a manufacturer).
Lowes depends on Litex and Westinghouse too much and their only relationship with a Taiwan factory is/was Chu Pang Industrial which supplies only 4-models. The Home Depot has an assortment of factories to choose from.
Another reason is The Home Depot has twice more Home Centers than Lowes. In my area, I have three Home Depot locations in an 10-mile radius versus one Lowes.

I have 4 Lowes centers within a 10 mile radius of me, versus only two Home Depot's. And yes, while HD has a better ceiling fan selection, from what I've experienced with the way the freakin' employee's handle customers, and the way HD's stockboys handle products when stocking them...of the fans I've ever bought from any Home Depot store, they've been dinged, or the box completely trashed. While I can't blame it entirely on HD employees for the damage, you never know. I've never had to return a fan from Lowes..since I've had no major problem..yet.

Both retailers in my area handle the products extremely well. The only destroyed boxes I see are returns which are taped and sent back to the sales floor. Some of those boxes look like they have returned from a few Nuke Wars

Can't you bypass the wattage limiter by cutting it out with wire cutters and then splicing the wires together?

I believe that Lowes is truly the better in these two as of now. Because as I mentioned in my Hunter thread HD has converted most of their Hunters to Five Minute Fan lines. As well as I think that Harbor Breeze's move more air in comparison to the similar Hampton Bay. Hopefully everyone can tune in their ten cents on this

I haven't been to either in at least six months (if not more) I should say. I really don't prefer either one way or another really, but fans aside, HD seems to have better prices on similar products sold at Lowes.

As far as shopping, selection, and customer service, I'm Menards all the way. They're very helpful, have the best quality and prices around. Yeah, they have a cheap industrial, but that's exactly what it is, CHEAP. At least the Hampton Bay one moves some air. The Litex ones at Menards just make a lot of noise and that's all they do. I should know, I own one. Is that Litex industrial you mentioned the same one sold at Lowes in Chrome and Gray?

Is that Litex industrial you mentioned the same one sold at Lowes in Chrome and Gray? No, it's white with curved blades. It doesn't even have the same motor shape, blades, or same size downrod as a similar Litex. Technically I'm not sure it's Litex, but that's what I was told it was so I went with it. I've never looked for anything in the manual, but then I haven't looked at the manual since I got it and now I'm not even sure where it's at. Here's a picture: And one that's Litex for sure:

I know i'm much rather late at this, but i prefer Home Depot in general. They were here much longer than Lowes around here
