I was just at Lowes today and in my opinion i think their fan inventory is better than home depot's. most of the fans home depot have look very wierd. Lowes' fans look alot more basic and normal (how i like) what does everyone else think?

That, plus the fact that everything at Home Depot is overpriced.
Lowe's does have better LOOKING fans, and I think they have a wider selection of Hunters. However, Home Depot has an advantage in that Hampton Bay does put some heavier dutier motors in some of their fans (Cameron II's have 188x15 motors IIRC), while I think Harbor Breezes (at least the ones made by Litex) all have 153mm, MAYBE a little bigger.
Also, having installed both Harbor Breeze Builder's Bests and Hampton Bay Quick Connects, I'm pretty sure that the Hampton Bays are a LITTLE better quality (they are in fact made by SMC - the name is stamped into all the blade brackets and possibly some of the other parts). I've never seen a Builder's Best that DIDN'T have sagging blades - and that includes those that were just installed.
Then again, Hampton Bay produces the embarrassing Graytons etc. which make even the crappy Sears spinners look good. Yes they're SMC, but even SMC gets it wrong sometimes. Also, it seems like a LOT of older Hampton Bays (at least early 90s) had capacitor issues.

Some of Lowes fans have impressive CFM ratings. The Cameron by HB seems to me like it might be a quality fan, I've never owned one.

Sadly, I have had to install MANY Hampton Bay and Harbor Breeze fans. I have installed no less than 20 of each. The Hampton Bays seem to have noise issues every single freakin' time I intall one. Drives me crazy. They all click of buzz, whether it's been a Grayton or a Cameron and almost all in-bewteen. Seems the only ones that I liked in terms of air movement, ease of installation, and quietness is the Huntington IIIs. I installed about 6 of them in recent history and they install so quickly, and move a ton of air quietly. They have easily-warped blades though. Besides that, the Hunter Low Profile II (exclusive to Home Depot) is really quiet and blows alot of air, but is stupidly time consuming to install. It takes an hour just to install the half-million rubber washers on the blades/brackets/mounting plate. The Harbor Breeze fans I have installed have either been Litex or Westinghouse. Westinghouse ones were noisy junk. The Litex ones were not bad at all, just easily warped blades as mentioned. And a few had "clicks." Very easy installs however. In regards to what Adam said, earlier Hamptons did seem to have capacitor issues. Every Landmark 5-blade w/cane fans I see in the trash are always shot capacitors. It seemed to be a really severe issue in all of them. I took one apart before that the capacitor had melted into a pancake, almost totally flat, nothing left. I only installed one Cameron. It was a 44 inch in white. NONE of the screws went in right, they seemed too big around. All fo them had to be forced and rounded out. Finally got it up, and it clicked and shook alot. Blew tons of air, but I was annoyed with the installation. If I have to buy new fans, I am somewhat partial to Quorum. Installed maybe 15 of them, mostly all the Custom Series models. Totally standard install. Lots of accessories. Silent, never had one even with a tiny wobble, including one I installed with a six-foot down rod. And the Custom Series ones are cheap. An all white runs $40. I only had one go bad, had no original box and never mailed a warranty card. Fan was about two years old. I took it back to the store filty dirty and it even had a huge gouge in one blade, they exchanged it no questions asked, even on a two year old fan! No dealers around here though, nearlest one is 100 miles away. Not bad fans. And forget newer Hunters, I only install them if I have hours to devote to putting them together.
ahhh. sigh of relief now that I have my typically over-drawn two cents put in...lol

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that doesnt mean anyone is wrong. I find the Hunters to be the best fans for the money under $200. I do not find them hard to install at all. They do offer some quick-connect-type models as well, I havent tried those. Personally I find Quorum fans to be overpriced and underpowered. They not bad, I just dont care to pay showroom prices unless you're getting a stack-type motor. I have not heretofore been aware of these $40 models, perhaps I will try one. Around here we have Menards, which has the best prices on new Hunters, not to mention Westinghouses and other brands: ada19851985.proboards25.com/index.cgi?board=fans&action=display&thread=1155155454

Menards has better prices, better selection, and better quality than Lowes and Home Depot. You can actually find someone to help you when you are looking for something. And they are are regionally owned. I have shopped at Menards since I was too young to remember.

My local Home Depot has a fan/lighting section that was remodeled into a stand-under section like Lowe's in 2006, and my Lowe's was built in 2006, and Lowe's has a great fan section, Home Depot is getting crappier!

Also, I've been to a Menard's in Indiana while traveling (there's none here) and they have pretty impressive prices and a pretty impressive selection. I mean, and industrial for $39.00 when it's $69.00 at Home Depot?!

As far as shopping, selection, and customer service, I'm Menards all the way. They're very helpful, have the best quality and prices around.
Yeah, they have a cheap industrial, but that's exactly what it is, CHEAP. At least the Hampton Bay one moves some air. The Litex ones at Menards just make a lot of noise and that's all they do. I should know, I own one.

I've gone to Home Depot since I was 3 or 4, and when I was little I memorized the names of all of the fans they had. Although their service isn't great, I am used to their fans.
I've been to Menards, and it looks like they also have some great fans.
