I was fascinated by "impact sprinklers" as a kid - the ones that make the stereotypical "click click click" noise... although I never really had a "collection". But I sure ran up my parents' water bill lol. I was really interested in the big metal ones you used to see at parks and golf courses and such, namely those that can be found here. I thought the Buckners looked a lot more unusual than Rain Birds, which for the most part just looked like your basic lawn sprinkler. For the most part it seems like these have all been replaced with the pop-up rotary heads. There were some really weird ones called "rocker jets" where the arm moved up and down instead of side to side, but I can't seem to find these online anywhere (just the giant "rain guns", which aren't exactly the same). The weirdest lawn sprinkler I ever saw was a simple piece of nylon or rubber tubing on a stand - when it was turned on, the water pressure caused the tube to bend and flex, effectively whipping the water around everywhere in random patterns (I called it the "swatting sprinkler" lol). I've only seen a couple of the originals, and I believe it's recently been replicated by things such as a giant "flower" sprinkler for kids to play in and a hose with a lot of small flexible tubes that do the same thing. Bizarre, to say the least.

In my backyard we have a whole system of sprinklers pretty much like the ones JW posted. We have 2 kinds of sprinklers: small ones and bigger ones. We have 4 small ones and 5 big ones. The big ones make a sound like that: Tick, tick, tick tick tick, tttttttttttttttttttt, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tttttttttttttttttt etc
For the front yard we have a yellow one made of steel that you have to connect to a green hose and it have the shape of a fan with 3 blades that spins.

Lol, I used to fall asleep on warm summer days with my neighbor's sprinkler and my window fan. hehe i done that before.. i remember i use to play in the water way back when i was a kid specialy one time way back i use to have a clown type water toy(hooks up into hose and when you turn water on,the water sprays out of the clown's head and his hat comes off his head and it spins as the hat floats by water goes in it) this water toy is long gone,i had it like middle 1980s and it's been gone sense then... but sense then till last time i played in water,i mainly use the fan type spinner thing sprinkler.

I used to play with a "crazy daisy". Which was effectively a flexible hose that when you put water through, it would wiggle all over the place. Water slides were fun too.

I also remember the Crazy Daisy flower sprinkler but they are still around. Its the kind of thing you would buy at Canadiantire. It was mostly popular in the late 90s.
