I'm at witt's end!!!!!!!!! The new SMC ceiling fan which I bought off from ebay, and posted a question about it in the identification forum, IS TOOOOOOOOO LOUUUDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!! It doesn't HUM it goes clickeruuuuuhhhhhhh clickeruhhhhhhhhhhh it sounds like something loose and vibrating, but it isnt!!!! I have checked every nut, bolt, screw, and washer on the thing!!! I have got the as tight as possible--still the same noise loose--still the same noise!!! I don't think its the motor and/or an electrical problem, beause it still slightly makes the sound when it is slowing down after you turn it off!!! I didn't install it w/ a down rod, so could this have any efect on noise? (I threw the 4" downrod away btw) the only thing I can think of, is this fan didn't come with those red fiber washers that goes between the blades and their mounting screws. Would this have an effect on the noise? If I can't fix this problem FOR FREE then I'll be taking the fan down, throwing it in the dump and putting floresent light fixtures in its place!

Got two six-step solutions for you. Tell me what ya think. ;D PLAN A1) Remove fan from ceiling 2) Take to top floor of three- or four-story building 3) Open window 4) Toss fan outside window 5) Hear cool sound 6) Replace fan with Hunter or find a nice vintage one from one of us. - OR - PLAN B1) Remove fan from ceiling 2) Secure mailing address of jean2291 3) Carefully disassemble fan and place all small parts in a Ziploc TM Freezer Bag 4) Package fan and ship to "Fans of SMC Fans", c/o jean2291 5) Watch board for super giddy post by jean2291 one week later 6) Replace fan with Hunter or find a nice vintage one from one of us. Just one of many helpful hints provided by yours truly, JW, at no cost to assist you in getting rid of your SMC (AKA Slow-Moving Crap) as soon as possible

JW why are you regarding me because its a SMC ceiling fan. I don't really liked it because: Its Not even a REAL SMC The blades are not pointed ans the bottom plate is not brass and appears to have a ivory sideband.
And I tough that most of peoples on this site liked SMC ceiling fans(especially because of their older retarded designs)

Ha ha... Wait, are you serious?
Well there also is a plan C: Ask Pierce (organist89) to come up with one of his ridiculously vile ways of committing fanslaughter.
I hate fluorescents. Reminds me too much of a hospital, although the newer ones aren't that bad, they don't have the greenish tone to them.

No, I didn't really throw it away, but I was about to!! LOL! Actually I think I fixed the problem last night.... I took the blades off and put the stencil side facing up (Now I know changing the look didn't help..LOL but the stencil didn't go with the room..) so now it is white facing down. Now it doesn't make the noise! I guess maybe re-inserting the screws fixed it.....how simple...LOL

That is the first thing I would suggest, since it is a new fan, is to check all the screws.

Yeah, I had that problem with my fan, it wobbled like mad. But when I tightened the blade arms, it stopped.

Sometimes there are pieces of binding inside the motor that come loose.
Try removing the blades and brackets and see if it still makes noise.

Ben was talking about his Crest before the thread resurfaced.
