Hey, I love NuTone fans! I just remembered this place in Williamsburg that had them. It was called Ted's Waffle House. They were the Verandah series in antique brass finish with 4 blades. There were 2 of them in the center of the dining room, but as I recall, they never revved them up. I ate there at least 3 times on my visit to Williamsburg in 1992...mainly because of the lovely NuTones, go figure. They also had good waffles there too. Ted's Waffle House: Good Waffles. Good Fans I would see a lot of the NuTones of that type in upscale homes here in Pittsburgh...maybe a Tara or 2, who knows. There is a restaurant in Pittsburgh that has some NuTone Decorator series in it. They are all white. I also like the NuTone hugger too--very unique.

i bet dan will bother you about that. just kidding. FYI, it's only an assumption, although it is quite possible. I'm sure there are some in Downtown Pittsburgh...

My favorite Nutone is the original Veranda, which is a replica of a deco-styled R&M fan from the 30s. It looks like a spinner but actually has a poor-quality friction drive motor inside. Imitation cane blades, usually seen with a schoolhouse light.
I also love the Veranda Deluxe, this is a variable speed fan with the trademark Nutone vents (look like Tara vents crossed with GE vents) and a blade mount that looks like Fasco but actually screws to a hidden metal flywheel conventionally. My favorite finish in these is brown and brass with stencil.
The Sea Island actually has a Fasco-style flywheel, with a spinner motor, Nutone vents, and three speed. I like these as well.
Nutone made an industrial with a convential looking motor (actually I think they may have introduced the style, which is a variation of an Evergo, but there are many copies) with four straight metal blades. They also made a version with 3 curved blades, and a residential version called the Slimline with four wood blades and a huge switch housing. I really only like the four blade industrial.
Any of the above are high on my want list. I also like the Hacienda, which is a Hunter Original copy with GE vents and a spinner motor.
Nutone always had really unusual fans, despite the fact that most were attempts at reproducing or copying other fans. The Veranda Deluxe, Veranda II, Ellegance and Century were quite good quality with Universal or GE motors. Their spinner motors were also decent quality. In fact the only poor quality Nutone has been the very first Veranda. In the mid-late 90s Nutone shifted from showrom grade to department store grade, making fans to complete with the lower end of Hunter's line. They had a couple that looked identical to the Coastal Breeze and Low Profile II, as well as the standard Harbor Breeze-lookalikes.

I should add, I'm not only looking for any of the Nutones I mentioned, I'm looking for Taras. Go git 'em, John!

Dan, whats the deal with that fan in the unknown gallery of the yahoo group listed as 'nutoneold'? Do you know anything about that one? It's a very early Nutone industrial, has the same fake cane blades as the Veranda I. I dont know exactly when it was made but it would be after the Veranda I (it has a K55-style motor) but not too far after becase of the blades. Very cool fan. Plastic motor housing as well. I almost had the chance to get 8 of them, but an evil bureaucrat got in my way.

If you know what it is then, I suggest you move it into the appropriate gallery.

I also beleive that they made a 36'' version with a smaller motor and square-tip blades, instead of the scooped blades on the 56'' size. The canopy is the same as the 56''. Contech made an industrial exactly like the nutone industrial except for the canopy. I think that one is a knockoff, but I'm not sure.

Nutone never made a 36" industrial that I know of, although Ryan Sipka would know for sure. AS for the Con-Tech, their motor was slightly different. The circle on the bottom center was raised rather than recessed, and the sideband was thinner.

Hey what year did Nutone made the Slimline and how did that long last before it got discontinued? Because I seen in the gallery and I wanted what that fan. Which version are you asking about? Essentially, the version without vent holes (and with the traditionally squared Nutone blades) or the version with vent holes that looks more like a Toastmaster or the like. The first version of the Slimline was their industrial motor with wood blades and a huge switch housing. It does not have vents. It was introduced along with all their other import models in the early-mid 80s. In the late 80s/early 90s it became the Slimline II which was a more conventional-looking import spinner.
