I think I remember seeing this in a gallery as a Moss, but here's a 42" (maybe 36") GE vent fan with variable speed from my aunt's house. Note the canopy, as well as the points that could impale you lol. Any ideas?

Louis has some of those, I dont know what they are labeled. I've also seen the same exact fan with ornate top and bottom plates, similar to an Evergo.

I've never seen a label on these fans either. I thought the canopy might be a clue...? I thought it was interesting because you don't see a whole lot of vintage 42" fans (except for perhaps Homestead and Casablancas with short blades), let alone with variable speed. As I recall from the last time I saw it on (when I was a child), it goes pretty fast even on its lowest setting. But again that's only what I remember as a kid.
As a side note, this is the house that used to have a couple of brown wood-blade Cromptons before they redecorated. One got moved to their back porch where it is deteriorating, and the other is probably history. Oddly enough, they still use the Crompton control box in the living room to control the new fan (a newer basic 52" Hunter) and the thing is still silent.

Yes you can use those control boxes on any fans.
As I said, I've seen that exact fan before, and an ornate version. I've also seen regular ornate Evergos with that canopy. Yet, I dont think this is an Evergo.

I think that fan could be a Moss. Because look at the canopy, I think it can be. It's just my guess.

That's definitely not a Moss canopy Shafarah. It looks more like the early Casablanca/Key Largo canopies.

I have a friend with two of the ornate version, same canopy. One is 3 speed. Both are labeled Winco.

I always wondered what brand that fan was! As Dan said, I have one just like the one pictured on this thread. Mine isn't labeled with a brand name, but simply a sticker that says "Decorative Ceiling Fan"...lol. And below that it says the size, 42", and has a manufacturer number, which I don't remember at the moment.
I had a music teacher who had a 52" version of this fan in his music room. It had the same variable speed knob, and the exact same characteristics as the 42" (motor, etc.), with the execption that it had a bell canopy.
JW, is that fan antique brass or polished brass? It's kind of hard for me to tell in that picture; mine is polished brass. Do the blades have stencil on top? The blades on mine are stenciled, so maybe whoever installed your aunt's fan simply flipped the blades over for a more plain look.

Looks antique to me.
Did the 52" one have the same dangerously pointy blades?

It did as far as I can remember. I can't go back and check because the person has since moved out of that house. But, i'm 95% sure that they were pointy like pictured on JW's fan. The blades on mine are pointy like that, too. It also has a spinner motor, and is heavier than most manufactured today.
