I remember a while ago, i was at a friends house and he has 2 fans in his living room, they were white (or at least they looked like they were painted white) they used the J-hook mounting, it had a pull chain and a variable speed control knob on the lower housing where the pullchain is of course, it was a four blade 52 inch also. i think the motor had a decorative flower-like outside on the bottom faceplate portion of the motor, the rest of the motor was just plain, and i belive the upper canopy had vertical ridges in it. i wish i could get a pic of these fans, they were really cool.

I have a few ideas of what it might be. But first, check ToViewFans and the Yahoo Group and see if anything looks similar.

I think i found it! you were right it was in toviewfans, its just a picture on the box but its the one that says "1890's nostaligie ceilng fan" whitch seems to ba an SMC A52?? i wonder if they came in two colors because it was exactly like that one only in white, but then again like i said it looked like it had several coats of paint on it, what era were those fans around too and would anyone happen to have a pic of one? theres alot of VERY nice fans in your toviewfans pages as well.

Probably early to mid 80s. It looks like a GE vent A52 with ornate parts.

White and brass or just white? the early SMCs with the ribbed canopy I've only seen in brown/brass and brass. Later ornate SMCs were available in white/brass. There were also a few different versions of this fan, different bottom plates, blade brackets, and switch housings.
A52s with ribbed canopies were early 80s, like 81-82 if I am not mistaken.

yeah it was all white, you can tell they just painted it though because there was alot of missed spots and brush lines, it probably was an early 80's model because the house was built around that time too i belive, it probably was a completely different color like the ones described. but it looked exactly like the one on that box though.

Well that's what it is then.
