I remember a fan from the Sears catalog in the 80s . . . anyone else seen this one? Basic 80s GE vent fan . . . ball socket canopy, thick housing, spinner motor, GE vents, big switch housing, four stencil blades . . . not unlike this: The unique thing about it was the sideband. It was smooth, not filagree . . . but had, as part of the finish, a checkerboard pattern. Two rows of squares, with every other square being darker than the fan finish. They also had the same model, with a stained glass sideband . . . No, this isnt a quest, I dont want one, but I am nostagic for the fans and other things that look distinctively 70s and/or 80s.

I am familiar with the stained glass sideband version; I have seen them in the Sears catalogs circa 1985. There is also a night club near me that has three of them hanging above the bar. Surprisingly, the housing still lights up, or someone actually takes the effort to replace the bulbs. At any rate, at have never seen any others before, except for a couple on eBay.

The lower wattage a light bulb, the longer it will last. That having vbeen said, it's a lot more likely they have been changed. Pretty cool someone actually cares, you should ask about it. And get a picture of the fans!
I've seen a handful of the stained glass ones, but I've never seen the solid (checkered) sideband version in person.

I'll snap a picture the next time I am there. They also used to have second generation Synlix Dixie Belles, but they were replaced last year by Hampton Bays.
