Hate to break it to you Adam, but that lower canopy IS the upper canopy to the fan, when hanging it for the movie for some reason the mounted it as a lower canopy. The fan is really the same as the Tatung you ahve in your gallery, in white with the canopy on upside down.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It didn't look right at all.

I don't see why they would change the looks of the fan and mount the upper canopy to a lower canopy for the movie. You never know, tatung could have made an earlier model of that fan and had the capacitor on top of the motor. Or you could be right. Their is also two types of those fans, tatung, with a real fat switch housing, and one exactly like your solar fan in your groups with the smaller switch housing, except this one was not solar. I use to have one. I can't really tell if the switch housing is real fat or smaller.

No, that's definitely the upper canopy. If it were the lower canopy, it would have been a little smaller than that.

Have you ever seen a Moss Carribean Breeze motor with a lower canopy?

The reason they used the canopy as a cover, I'm assuming, is because when they extended the fan to be on such a long downrod they ahd to mount it to the motor in such a way that wasnt appealing from the top. So, cover it up. I've also seen several fans installed that had the upper canopy upside down on top of the motor for no apparent reason.
