Today I was at a house that had the oddest NuTone I ever saw. It was a "spinner." I put it in quote since the blades mount above the motor and a very ornate bottom plate. It looks kind of like the Moss fans that had the fixed bottom motor plate with the blades spinning above. The whole fan was dark brown. It had a very small and ornate bell-style canopy. I am unsure of how it hangs. The blades were ever-so-slightly warped, and they had that bizarre NuTone cane insert I have seen very few times before. Instead of being laminated into the wood, it is more or less stuck onto the bottom and resembles wicker more than cane. The pull chain came directly out of the bottom, no switch cup. It was a three speed at one point. The fan was used on a screen porch and takes much coaxing to get moving. High makes a terrible grinding noise but runs no problem. It is quite slow though, equivalent to low on any other fan. Medium was same speed but the motor sound changed to more of a hum than the grinding noise of high. Low is dead, giving it two off positions. The homeowners were not home so I could not inquire much about it, a friend was house sitting. The bearings appear to be totally shot. It stinks since I fell in love with it since I never once saw a NuTone like it. Anyone else have? Any pics? If you need better descriptions, let me know. I would take a pic if I could!

You should really try to get the fan. I'm trying to get a golden fan electric fan from one of my neighbors. Hey Raymond, what other fans are you interested in besides NuTones?

I'll see what I can do. The house is my friend's aunt. I had been to the house twice before, but never on the back porch so I had never seen it until last night. I have never met the homeowner and they don't live very close, but I will talk to my friend about it today and see if she can speak with her aunt. I do not think they would miss the fan much, it seems to be never used anymore. The dirt on it shows it was at one point, but it now has cob webs from the blades to the walls and ceiling. The porch is also filled with crap so it does not look like they will be needing it anytime soon either. I will tell them I will install one of my builder fans I have laying around. Dan, you have first dibs. Give me some time and I will see what I can do. Its a project fan for sure though!

A Nutone Spinner: is it like an SMC Laguna? There might not be a Nutone Spinner, or at least I haven't seen one. Does the motor look like the White one in "Critters" Adam's seeking?

I'm going to, ahem, not pay attention to Andrew and reply directly: Nutone had many spinner fans. 1. The first Nutone, the Veranda, was top mount and appears to be a spinner fan. This is the fan Raymond is discussing. It is supposedly a belt drive motor inside. 2. Industrial fans, Nutone has had many different versions and models, my favorite being a rather basic 48" fan with 4 squared metal blades 3. The Slimline. The first version of the Slimline takes the motor from their first versions of industrial fans and adds 4 wood blades and a huge switch housing. The second version looks similar to any standard Moss/Toastmaster/CEC spinner, but with a larger switch housing. 4. Nutone also had several standard design fans that used spinner motors, including their Fasco knockoff "The Sea Island" and their Hunter Original knockoff "the Hacienda".

Dan, I am still working on that NuTone. I am getting no where fast! But this girl should be taking me to her aunts house sometime soon so I can discuss getting it from her. Once I got it I would simply clean it (it is filthy) and send it right to you. I would not want to take it apart and explore since I am very unfamiliar with them and would not want to mess it up. Anyway, I have final exams starting tomrrow, and I work every day from today through next wednesday. But I just wanted to let you know I am still trying.

Thank you Raymond I appreciate it. No need to mess with it, I'll fix it up and send pictures to share with all. Start thinking of what you might be interested in to trade, I have a few more Laskos, no Fascos though at the moment.
