I have a Vornado pedestal fan that runs nice after a little clean and lube. The problem/question is about end play. It had about 3/8 of an inch of play. The fan would self center when turned on, but it clunked between speeds and when turned off. So I added two nylon washers to the front end of the rotor and the play was reduced to about a 16th of an inch. The fan runs nice - no more clunking. Spindown is pretty good but not as good as it was.
Is it possible to have not enough end play?

It would be cool if some portable fan guys would chime in. Oh well - I am going to add another question just like this is a real forum : )
How do you all feel about a motor running temp of 101 degree after a 1/2 hour on high speed?
