Hi guys. I have a friend who is scheduled to do a repair on a Casablanca Holliston in a week. We are attempting to determine whether this fan uses a horseshoe receiver or a typical IT board(this is an IT-3 fan) and where to find a replacement. We thought it was a board but are hearing many different things and are now unsure. I checked the manual and catalogs and it doesn't say. The fan is high up so getting in there isn't an option till we have the part. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

I haven't had my IT3 Panama open, but I believe it still uses a board (it just doesn't use the orange BFR (speed) strip that the older IT fans had, as it uses relays to change speed). These boards rarely fail, and are usually more reliable than the IT boards, as they don't use the electrical "Pulses" in the wall to send signals (it actually uses RF and dip switches on the side of the W-85 IT3 wall controller). Unfortunately, IT3 parts are now discontinued and are therefore out of production, and IT3 motors are difficult to come by, so your best bet is to buy the IT3 Conversion Kit (Cole S. of Vintage Fans and More can tell you where to get one) that uses the Minka Aire universal 3-speed remote control with reversing functionality and receiver that will fit into the housing of the fan (I think it just uses a couple of wiring harnesses). You'll lose some of the "Special Features" (such as Fan Minder, Light Minder, Home Safe, Safe Exit, and Demo Modes), as well as 3 speeds, but those just don't get used as much anymore, so it's not a big loss IMO. You'll also lose the audio tones, although some people find them annoying, so it's nice to not have them. Hope this helps!

I actually work with the people who make the conversion kit. Anyways, my friend actually has access to IT-3 stuff so he will be ordering a direct replacement I believe. There is actually a replacement center that has new boards in stock that I found while researching.

I guess there is still some NOS stuff out there, but Casablanca (Hunter) doesn't have any remaining stock. The conversion will likely just be a Part-for-Part swap, although your friend will likely have to do the "Syncing" process that's described at the back of the manual (which is available in PDF form online, in case they no longer have it).

Yup. My friend should have no problem. He is an industry veteran and owns a fan store and repair shop actually. We just couldn't remember what the system used as we had gotten multiple answers.
