I just installed a NIB Emerson Designer CF759. It uses a remote for everything including the reversing. Everything works except it will not reverse. When I press the reverse button on the remote, it hums 3 times like it’s trying to do something but all it ends up doing is speed up while humming. Then it drops back down to the normal speed.
With Emerson out of the fan business I’m kinda stuck figuring this out myself, so what would my steps be to diagnose? Could some wiring be swapped? When I hit the reverse button it is doing something but acts like it’s accelerating the fan instead of braking it so maybe something is wired reversed? Or could the reversing module be bad? It looked easy to replace, just sitting in the switch housing.
Would it be possible to just rewire with a physical reverse switch? I was planning to replace the Emerson canopy module with a 5 dip switch Fanimation module so I can use a Fanimation WR502 in wall switch.

So this one is the remote model then. At first I thought it has a reverse switch but the control is actually a full function one so theres 3 things that could be happening.
1 the receiver was wired wrong. With 2 whites and 2 blacks it can get confusing. But the fact that the rest works makes me doubt its this. Its still worth checking first.
2 the control is bad. The fan seems like its trying to respond so once again I have my doubts. There is multiple controls that came with this fan over the years so I would be curious to see which one you had.
3 the reverse module is bad. I think this is the most likely. Now heres the problem. The thing is that I don't know how you could get a replacement. I have some friends in ceiling fan repair and they wouldn't have it either I imagine. Your best bet would probably be to try to find a compatible control with one and replace the control, receiver and all of that stuff. I don’t know whether the reverse module is in the receiver or somewhere else but that could pose a problem depending on where it is.

1. I will try to swap the hot and neutral from the house tonight to see if that's it. I have only 2 wire with no ground so there is no easy way to determine which wire is neutral in the ceiling box. 3. There is a horseshoe reciever with 4 dip switches and a separate reverse module in the switch housing. The wiring harness in the switch housing looks nearly identical down to the molex connector to this harness Here The only visible difference is the starting capaciator in mine is a yellow cylindrical one instead of the black boxy one. The module on my has a sticker that says REV-V7067B-01, not REV-A7067B-20 like the Anderic part.

If wire swapping doesn't work then I would recommend to start sourcing a replacement. I pulled up a manual and it showed a receiver in the canopy so clearly theres multiple control/receiver combos that changed over the years.

Okay this is weird. I went into the room last night and my daughter said the reverse button was now working. I never did anything but it now reverses just fine.
