I was running my Fasco Great Room on medium this evening and I was on the computer. I started hearing this strange groaning sound and it seemed to be coming from the fan. So I felt the switch housing and there seemed to be a bit of vibration coming from it. So I turned it off waited a few minutes and turned it on low. After a few seconds I started hearing the sound again. It doesn't do it constantly but there is a sort of ruhh ruhh sound.
Could it be the flywheel or the motor bearings? It has the original flywheel but it feels fine to me and flexible.
Hopefully it's not the motor. I may change it out for something else in the mean time. It needs a bearing service because the bearings have always been raspy, so maybe the noise is the bearings going?

I’d like to see where this goes. I’ve never encountered a stack motor fan with bad bearings I’ve gotten them when they’re a hair wirrry in noise but nothing to this extent.

I will try to look into it further. Probably won't be right away. I'm thinking maybe put up one of those Emerson Apollos for now. Not sure yet. Have you ever had a flywheel break on a fan? Just wondering if the blades fall off or it just drops below the motor shaft.
The bearings on this one has always had the whirring sound, but it's more noticeable at night when it's dead quiet. I'm not good at servicing them as I've never tried taking a CF motor apart.

If flywheel check if any flywheel screws are loose or if the bearings are bad maybe replace the bearings or put some WD40 in the fan

I’ve seen more flywheels break on Fascos then any Casablanca.
