I have a Casablanca Panama 5, Model 12004T that we purchased back in 1985 or 1986. It sounds like the bearings are beginning to go out. I would like to see what my options are. I have a never out of the box Casablanca Mission, Model 97052T that I am never going to install. My questions are, can I use the motor from the Mission Fan? Can I purchase a replacement motor? What year were each of the fans produced? Is there value to the Mission Fan if I can find a motor or repair for my Panama 5 that I want to continue using?

You can put zoom-sprout or WD-40 or any other oil out there into your Panama 5 or you can replace the bearings -Devin, VCF member since 5/11/2022

Hello, The Panama was first released in 1980-81, and was produced in similar form until around 2012, when it was replaced with a "New" Panama that's still available today, and uses a "Spinner" motor. The Mission was first released in 1997-98, and was produced until around 2012, when it was discontinued. The Mission would be worth reselling, since it is a sought-after fan. Of course, bronze has replaced brass as the popular finish now, so you may want to consider installing the Mission in the Panama's place. You can replace the bearings in the Panama if you have experience doing so. Replacement motors can sometimes be sourced on eBay (they are NO longer available from Casablanca, and haven't been for a few years now, so they're ONLY available used), although the newer XLP motors (like the one in your Mission) tend to be a bit noisy out of the box. The motor in the Mission is slightly larger and uses a slightly different InteliTouch control than the Panamas do. You could definitely see if the motor from the Mission will fit onto the faceplates and side band of the Mission. Complete Panamas similar to yours are also available on eBay as complete fans, and a lot of them are sold by collectors who have rebuilt them (which includes installing new bearings). Hope this helps. -Vincent

Thank you for your response. I will check to see if the motor can be switched out. I do not want to use the Mission fan since it does not work in our home. If the motor does not match, I will go on line looking for a replacement and then likely see if I can sell the never used Mission Fan and all of the parts.

Are there some type of oil port on the bearings? I thought I had read these are sealed bearings.

Are there some type of oil port on the bearings? I thought I had read these are sealed bearings. There are no oil ports on any ceiling fan Casablanca has made. If you want to replace the bearings, you will need a few specific tools on hand in order to remove/replace the bearings. Here is a video attached below by Andrew W. who does a pretty good job at explaining the whole replacement process and the tools you'll need.
