Nice. I've been off and on thinking about getting a shed. I kind of like the wooden ones Home Depot and Lowes have but don't know how they hold up. I really need to get some additional storage and this would probably work out cheaper than renting a unit over time. Only thing I'm concerned about is it gets HOT here in Florida and that along with the humidity not sure how plastic and metal items will hold up. I really want to take the leap and buy a house but it just seems like an awful time with the high prices and on top of that the interest rates going up. Wish the prices would become more appropriate or had bought two or three years ago. Did see a house near my parents that would have been perfect on an acre with a two car detached garage but it needed a ton of work and the neighbors yard is full of trucks and semi trailers for a view. LOL That would have been a nice place though. The reality is no matter what you’re gonna get screwed one way or the other Lol. Material prices have gone up tremendously as I know you know with a lot of the lowes and Home Depot sheds you have the option to either buy the kit and assemble it yourself or buy it with installation and I believe I’d you go that route they include the floor wood and shingles. I live about two hours from Lancaster PA where there is a ton of Amish sheds and locally we have two dealers in my area one of which I can get a better quality built shed delivered of whatever dimension for the same if not cheaper than a home Depot shed that is plywood not osb even the T-111 siding is thicker. Obviously over time a shed is cheaper then renting a storage unit but you made an excellent point which is climate control especially with brass fans among other items. The nice thing too with the shed if you do buy a house you can move it. Jordan made a great YouTube video about his story with looking right now. It’s definitely a horrible time to buy. We bought in May 2020 the inventory was getting bad but prices hadn’t gone up yet. Where we bought there’s always a small premium above market trend because it’s private you have to have a minimum of five acres to build. We lucked out because also it’s either as we called chicken snacks or small mansions where we live so a normal decent sized rancher is a rarity. I found my house on Zillow minutes after it was posted knew exactly where it was. The photos weren’t even up yet. Had my wife in the truck and drove by within a half hour. Funny thing was the previous owner was out in the yard with the realtor getting the for sale sign ready and asked me if that was me that kept passing by LOL. Had we not bought this house I don’t know where we’d be two other houses that were similar both sold for way more, needed way more work, and didn’t have all new systems like my house. Obviously the economy is in the toilet, the government is screwing everything up currently, and unfortunately interest rates are going to have to go up however I think we’re gonna see the real estate market crash very soon. Is that good ? No but I feel like waiting it out another six months will definitely help.

Yeah I agree with all those issues I'm not really interested in buying right now. I have noticed though that the prices don't seem to be going up anymore, they seem to be flattening out although the nice houses are still selling fast. I had found a house earlier this year near my parents that would have been perfect and the price was good. I texted my realtor but before she could schedule a viewing the seller already had it under contract.
I made a couple offers on houses in the 2014-2015 period and looked at many with my realtor, but ultimately decided I was biting off too much and I didn't have as much saved up. Back then you could buy a nice house here for like $50-65,000 though. It seems now that the same houses are $130,000 or so more than they were then which to me is just outrageous. I wasn't as picky then when the prices were cheap but at today's prices no way would I be interested. I wish I had bought a couple summers ago you had to look hard but you could find a nice house for well under $200,000 still.
I think the market will slow down if the interest rates keep going up but I don't see how the inventory will pick up if people aren't interested in selling. I see spurts where you see several houses come on the market in one day but then you go weeks with nothing.
It's just gotten with these rates to where I can't afford the payments. And while with a fixed rate mortgage your payment stays the same whereas rent increases usually each year, however you still have to deal with property tax and insurance when you buy. When you look at the monthly payment and those two things WILL increase every year too.
Another thing I've noticed is many of the houses I have an interest in, end up selling but they are going to people who are just buying to rent them out, and they come right back on the market as rentals. I don't even know if it would be worth trying to buy anything, because it seems either people aren't interested in buying them to live in or the investors are beating them all out with cash offers. I think personally it should be like foreclosures were where they only look at investor offers AFTER they review the ones from people who just want a place to live in.
One builder here has also been building houses and instead of selling them they are keeping them and renting them out. One they just did went up for $2,000 a month which is just insane to me. Needless to say I don't think anyone has rented it last I checked. That to me is ridiculous, you could buy the house and your mortgage would be like half that even with tax and insurance.
There have been a lot of houses around here being built to sell too though. The back way from work near my house used to be all woods and in the last few months it's all gotten nearly filled with new houses. But again the prices are crazy for what you get. IMO
I agree on being able to move the shed that was my plan too since if I get a house I want a shed. Here in Florida we have Smithbilt sheds which custom builds. They have metal siding and metal roof with wood frame and seem to hold up well. My grandparents bought one when they built their house in 1995 and I go in it sometimes when I visit my grandma and it still looks like new and no bugs inside it seems. My parents had one at our prior house when I was a kid too. Both were the Eave model which looks more house like.

I've decided I'm just going to rent a storage unit for now. There's a facility about 3 miles from my house and they just built a climate controlled section, so I think I'm going to rent a unit in there. Plus it will be easy to move stuff back and forth since it's so close. I just want this stuff out of the way and be able to hold it for later without it getting ruined. It's really in the way and stressing me out so this will help. Not happy about the price though - a year or two of renting a space would get me a good size Smithbilt Shed. But it's just not practical to go that route right now. This is just for now. Hopefully when I do move I can be in a situation where I can use this stuff and not have to store it all anymore, and have more storage space too than I do now.
Going to see about getting it this week, and hopefully start moving stuff in this weekend.

I really need to reply to your last post but it’s annoying on my phone lol.
congrats on the new unit! The nice thing is the climate control part of it. It’s one of those yes you could own a shed but at the same time when it comes to brass finishes and obviously the other stuff you are storing that comes in to help a lot!
Now to fill it up with tons of fans haha!

The other was 20x10 which I thought was nice but a bit more than I would need. This is more appropriately sized I think and half the cost of the other one, so when it came up I swiped it. Still climate controlled though. Went by and got the keys and codes and everything, I wanted to move some stuff tonight after work but it came up a bad rainstorm so will probably do it tomorrow.

That's both climate controlled of course. A non climate 10x10 would run $117. I'm sure there are cheaper places around here but this place is really nice, everything is fenced in with a front and rear gate with codes, cameras, lighting, pest control, etc very clean and very nice onsite staff. I could may be have gotten cheaper but it being just a few miles from my house makes it worth it to me. Jordan told me he had two 10x10 units in CT and they had just increased to $240 a month for each one. So that's $480 total! Crazy!

That sounds pretty good especially for being climate controlled. Im in NJ I’d say we’re closer to Jordan’s numbers but not quite as high.
About twenty years ago it seemed like two three self storage places were going up everytime you went out and they built a ton. The building has obviously since seized but we have a ton of options. My families thoughts always were if you have that much stuff you need to build a building or have a yard sale however everyone’s needs are obviously different but it sounds like you got a great deal!

Honestly if I ever gave it any thought, my feeling on it was more like your family's. Too much stuff. There is a point where I think where collecting becomes hoarding, IMO. I do not like clutter, however, I do plan to use this stuff should I get my own home, so I think it is worth keeping. This is where the point came that I didn't want to get rid of it, but it was really getting in the way and stressing me out. So I think in this case a storage unit is good. I did get some stuff moved in this weekend, of course right as I was getting to pull in, the sky turned black and it started sprinkling. Fortunately I got most everything moved in before the bottom let out. Nice thing I realized too about climate controlled is the doors open to the inside hallway so you are out of the rain.

I agree 100% with you. I hate clutter the one thing that amazes me is when you buy a house how much stuff you do accumulate to keep the household running compared to when I rented or lived with my parents (granted they had all the random stuff lol). There definitely is a point. I feel like everyone hits a point and unloads fans. But what you’re doing saving stuff to actually use isn’t. I was the same way. In fact I stored furniture in my grandmothers house when she moved out and I was renting the guest house and when I went from an 800 sq ft guest house to a 2000 sq ft house there wasn’t much furniture I needed lol. That’s what happened with me getting this shed. I have a two car garage well in theory but anyway I have extra stuff that stresses me out plus we plan eventually to convert it into a family room so it will be one day eliminated. Sure the car can go outside or buy a carport but I need to move my workbench and tools that's where this shed comes in. I’m trying to move thay all out plus I need a place to tinker! That’s usually how it goes!! At least they did some planning when they built that. Great feature!

I've just lost interest in acquiring more stuff, you always have a lot more than you realize. I've gotten to where if it's not something I think I'll legitimately use, then I won't buy it. It's nice to look at and admire things, but I don't necessarily need to own it and trip over it to enjoy something. Also a lot of people I notice will buy brand new stuff so as not to use their "good vintage". I don't get that since using it is not going to ruin it and if it's just going to sit there collecting dust then what's the point. LOL Don't get me wrong I do like to find something that needs some cleaning up and servicing. The hunt for stuff is fun and making it look new again is too, but after that I don't really know what to do with it other than it just sits collecting dust.
