I want to put a SMALL fan/light combo in my 2nd floor landing/hallway. Size-wise it's 3.5' x 6.5' x 7.75' (92"). There are multiple door or other opening to it, so it feels much larger than it's actual footprint. I really don't want to end up hanging a Minka Aire 26" SpaceSaver (although it's kinda' cute). It seems very low quality and just doesn't do it for me.
I'd rather take something like a Modern Fan Company Altus Flush 42" and cut the blades down to around 24"-26" diameter. Even with the optional LED light it only hangs down 13".
Besides the blade fabrication part which I can handle, including balancing, finishing, etc., should I be changing the capacitor to something lower due to the shorter blades? I rarely use any of my fans on their highest setting and frankly don't want the equivalent of a noisy boat propeller spinning above my head.
Looking for some words of wisdom or other ideas for a fan in this area. Thanks in advance!
Jim

Looking for some words of wisdom or other ideas for a fan in this area. Thanks in advance! Jim Instead of modifying a $400+ Modern Fan Co. ceiling fan, I'd buy something that's already tiny, like maybe a 34" Kichler Sola (link: www.amazon.com/Kichler-330150MWH-Ceiling-Control-Function/dp/B01M7WWWGM/ref=mp_s_a_1_18?dchild=1&keywords=30%2Binch%2Bceiling%2Bfan&pscroll=1&qid=1631242153&sr=8-18&wIndexMainSlot=35&th=1&psc=1 ) or a 26" Modern Forms Vox (link: www.amazon.com/Modern-Forms-FH-W1802-26L-TT-Outdoor-Titanium/dp/B07FKJ45JD/ref=mp_s_a_1_17?dchild=1&keywords=30+inch+ceiling+fan&pscroll=1&qid=1631242415&sr=8-17&wIndexMainSlot=35 ), both of which have more clearance than the Altus at 11" and 10.9" respectively from ceiling to bottom of light. The 34" Sola should fit in your hallway with ~4" of room on each side (idk if it's gonna be close to doorways though), and it's cheaper and better than the 26" Spacesaver. If money is no object, the 26" Vox is really premium, with a DC motor, smart control, and really high end components. There's a "Renewed" (it's probably brand new to be honest) Vox on Amazon for about the same as Spacesavers go for. Hope this helps!

Honestly the quality difference between Minka, Modern, etc, wont be much, as long as you avoid home center brands. And even some of those are similar.
Sounds like a 36" fan will fit so you have lots of options.
That said, if you decide to cut blades, I would not change the capacitor.

As of fan blade size excluding the arms, i measure as follows:
58-60cm for 56" fans 53-55cm for 52" fans 48-50cm for 48" fans 33-35cm for 36" fans
Slight differences is calculated based on motor size and where the blade is located (how far, top mounted, bottom mounted, vent type or spinner..)
