I have gotten a GE CD Spacemaker made by Thomson that has two problems. I think it's from June 2007, the model is GES050, silver in color, with CD player, hi/lo undercabinet light, remote, etc.
First, when you open or close the CD tray, the motor keeps running for about 30 seconds, and it also won't play a CD. I took the cover off and as soon as I touch the motor spindle, it stops spinning and the CD will play. The belt seems a little loose, so I am guessing that it might just need a new one to fix the problem.
The other issue is the right hand speaker will not play. I tried touching a 9 V battery to it and it does make static so the speaker seems to be OK. I did see a spot on the speaker wire that has a nick in the insulation, but it doesn't look like it went all the way thru. I am guesing I should check that but if it's not that I have no idea what the issue would be.
Does anyone know? I don't know much about electronics, but I would like to get it working properly.

If it's the model I'm thinking of, my grandmother had the same one. It was silver and white, and had the "Flat Panel" speakers below it. I'd say it's not really repairable. The older Spacemakers were somewhat repairable, but the newer ones aren't as much.

One thing I found interesing though, is the CD player itself (with the laser eye and disc spinner) is actually a generic Sony part that you can get on Amazon or eBay. It just plugs in, so if that part goes bad, you can get a new one for about $10. Makes me wonder what other kinds of CD players use the same thing.

Sony invented the CD and the CD player, so I'm not surprised that it's a Sony part. Sony also made similar-looking under-the-counter radios at the same time as GE did.

Do you know if Sony stopped making radios? I used to see a CD/tape player boombox at Walmart but they seem to have discontinued it. They also used to sell a small AM/FM Sony radio but it looks like they have discontinued it also. Plus I don't see Sony clock radios anymore. I can tell you with GE/RCA, that Thomson sold that division to Audiovox (VOXX) at the end of 2007. Audiovox continued to sell GE Spacemakers and RCA clock radios for a few years after that. They still sell RCA clock radios actually. I see GE and RCA accessories like cables, remotes, antennas and surge protectors in stores, and I believe those all are from VOXX. While GE's stuff like wiring devices and night lights is licensed from Jasco. I emailed Audiovox a while back about my GE Spacemaker and they sent me back a PDF of the owner's manual, so they do have info on most of the RCA and GE stuff.

Ah, I see Walmart still has them on their website too. I always liked the Sony bass boost boom boxes. Their electronics have always seemed good quality to me.

Also I have another GE Spacemaker that's very similar to the GES050, but it's model 7-5400. This one is black and silver, instead of white and silver. It has everything the GES050 has, but it also has Radio Data System, a wireless temp sensor (so it displays inside and outside temp on the screen of the radio) and it has an MP3 player holder with 3.5mm mini jack input.
One thing I thought was interesting was that Thomson was originally planning to include Sirius satellite radio capability for this model, but apparently that idea was shelved.

So I guess they ran out before and just got some more stock in of them.
