hi all, long time no post, last week during public holiday i was passing by that area to go to a game shop, i found the mosque was barricaded with demolition signs around it and was in shock.. that mosque was quite well known within the community and i used to go there as a kid, and witnessed the changes that happened by time as years passed almost every public holiday if friday gets along the way and i was in the farm the mosque had a total of 24 ceiling fans, 18 in the main area and 6 in the extension area originally there were 18 TMT fans operated by TMT regulators in the main hall, and the wall was light blue color, by time 3 TMTs were replaced, one by an early 90s orient deluxe, another by a 2000s SMC KN56 and one by a recent panasonic fan.. all regulators inside were replaced in around 2000 along with renovation, and some areas earlier in 1997 the extension was an outdoor shade made indoor, it had 6 mid 90s SMC KN56, between 1995 and 1996 the TMT fans are most likely early mid 80s, seeing based on the mosque design and structure upon my visit there, all fans were still there except the 2000 SMC, one TMT, orient and the panasonic.. 14 TMTs and 6 90s SMC KN56 were still there the labels u will notice on the fans and regulators are recently added and each label has a unique identifier number im on a constant visit there and trying my best to get all the fans through the scrappers

Tais, Looks like the perfect project for someone with lots of empty fan hooks in their workshop! Nice find though! How many are you looking to acquire? Bar coding the controllers and the fan is a great idea except for the labels being visible on the fan. Let us know what you are able to get. Take care! Jim

Would you be present when they take them down? Anyway, that's a lot of fans to bring back to your workshop.

I set a price based on the average (lower usually) rate of AED 25 (roughly $6.75) per fan set, based on the average rate i get from scrapyards (4 aed/kg).. since TMTs are heavy and each weigh around 10 kgs full set, that rate would be lower than what i would get if i bought them from the scrapyard
Most of the times it works as i negotiate them and tell them im buying in bulk and not a single piece, sometimes i get slammed with ridiculous prices, in that case i usually slam them with bargains, rejecting all their offerings until they accept my offer, knowing that if they sell for scrap, they would get roughly AED 1.5/kg which wont get them much anyway compared to what i offer them

Too bad the place is being demolished. It was a very cool installation. I hope you can get them all especially the TMT's. TMT of this generation are childhood fans. I would love to find one especially the mid size blue version.
I wonder why so many of the TMT's have broken lower canopies.

Probably broken due to heat generating in that area, most of the broken ones are in the front and left side of the mosque, where sun would hit stronger.. they were yellowed for as far as i remember, the cracked canopies i noticed them a few years back along with the labels when i visited that mosque
Before i get into fan collecting, i used to always think they were SMCs with a different motor shape, until i got that TMT from an abandoned farm, thats where i realized those werent SMCs

Sorry you weren't able to get it. The motors on those remind me of on the Hampton Bay industrials here since they are the SMC made ones.

Tais,
Sorry that the fans were gone. It just wasn't meant to be, but the next one will be better and you'll get it!
Take care!
Jim

I find it amusing that they have a controller for every single fan.
