I bought a Lasko ceiling fan on eBay as buy it now. It showed the shipping as $45 which I thought was kind of high, but figured shipping is high sometimes. Immediately after I paid, the seller sent a message that the shipping cost should have been $66 and that they would not accept the difference.
I've never heard of the shipping changing before and thought usually the seller just pays or keeps the difference. What am I supposed to do - cancel the order or file a not received claim? I've never had to leave any negative feedback and I've been on eBay for about 10 years. But I've never sold anything, so maybe it was an honest mistake.

Normally whenever I’ve encountered this they don’t know what they’re entering on the shipping calculator and that causes it wrong others end up needing to buy a box or shipping materials and try to scam you.
My honest opinion it’s on there hands either they give it to you for what you were quoted or cancel the order. If it’s something you really want you have the option to pay the difference but from my perspective it’s there fault it went up.

Ive had one auction where i paid for £5 for an old fan with "free shipping", ending up being the only bidder, the seller informed me he ended up spending £7.5 to ship it to my UK address, ending him in a loss but proceeded with it anyway

Well I got a refund, just glad to be out of it honestly. I really do want a Lasko for my collection, and I don't see any around here. I always liked them, and I don't see them on Ebay much.

I've never sold anything on EBay but how does it do the shipping estimate? Does the seller have it packed already to know what the weight and size is or do they just do a ballpark? I've never had any issue with the shipping being told as too much or too little before now.
Lately though, quite a long time actually, I've noticed the shipping seems ridiculously high sometimes. Especially on some buy it now items, the item might be a really good deal but the shipping is almost $80 or $100. Or sometimes I've seen the same item from the same seller at one higher buy it now with cheaper shipping, and then on another auction same item from same person at cheaper price but higher shipping.

Its usually either flat rated or you type in the dimensions and weight. The thing is most people don't have the accurate scale. I would usually weigh myself on the scale and then pick the box up and see the difference. Some people probably are more accurate. The other thing that is tough is years ago they changed it where they take 10% of your shipping cost as part of ebay fees because some people were inflating them to make some extra $ but then it cuts on your profit margin. So others will overinflate the weight to get the shipping calculator to make you break even.
