I noticed at Home Depot I went yesterday and they had the Hunter Mariners in white for $99. I thought that was a pretty good price because I think usually they and the Sea Air are $179. Personally I like the motor housing better on the Mariner than the Sea Air, that's just my preference though. It's a shame they aren't good motors on these, because I think they look pretty nice. If I had a house I might try one for $99 but then again, probably not.

It’s strange I’ve seen more Mariners get replaced then any other outdoor fan. The sea airs seem to stick around more. I’d love to get porch fans I hear the 42” minka aire Sundance? Are good air movers.

The Sundance looks pretty nice. I consider outdoor fans to be pretty much disposable especially here in Florida with the hurricanes. The blades break off and they yellow, rust and corrode due to the sun and humidity. The newer fans claim to use corrosion resistant stainless steel hardware, I wonder if waxing the paint might help too.

I had wet rated fans at my apartment first was two Harbor Breeze Calera 42” ers nice looking and cute fans but absolutely no air. More air came out opening a can of coke lol. They lasted about three and a half years
Then one was replaced with a Gazebo II lasted six months and the capacitor went and when replaced was already rusting internally in the switch housing motor housing, etc.
After it started doing about 60 RPM on high it got replaced with a Emerson Sea Breeze. This is the outdoor fan I recommend to anyone it moved good air, looked great, and is an Emerson so you know you can bet on it lasting.
I want to get porch fans at my house problem is no wiring in the ceiling and it’s all done in vinyl so I don’t know how you would get electric run there as it’s outside and no access whatsoever. I might look into hiring someone to do it but the pisser is I would like the Sea Breezes but would need 42” fans at the max.. this is to be continued lol

I've been hearing fans referred to as wet or uncovered outdoor rated a lot lately. Were fans like the Calera, Mariner and Sea Air always wet rated? Because I don't remember Hunter or Harbor Breeze calling them that 15-20 years ago. You used to just hear damp rated our outdoor. Or is this a new thing?
I know wet rated existed back in the 90s at least since my neighbor had two Fasco Rain Safe fans from the 90s, that were in open rain. They had stack type motors too and the blue fabric blades.

I always assumed wet fans predated damp more or less. I feel like the models you listed were always technically wet rated however I think the actual hanging of them in a direct exposure environment say in a pergola has increased greatly. I remember reading to be completely wet rated it needs a gfci circuit.

I would prefer Hunter Original outdoors, unfortunately they aren't for wet location, only damp. Mariner wouldn't do much on outdoors when it's 90°. I saw 6 Hunter Mariner in Marina and I felt hot even when they were on high, my video of them: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQvdMU3u_dMHowever you could get Craftmade Outdoor Patio Fan which is wet rated. Older ones are known for bad capacitor, not sure about newer ones. I even saw 2 older ones that reversed themselves with no reverse switch.

Hunter at one time in the 90s did make a wet location Original, with a glass cover over the motor, and sailcloth blades. Good luck finding one today though. LOL

That is the question You might want consider the Craftmade Outdoor Patio fan, just with a 44" blade set. Great fans. Not many good, small, outdoor fans under around $300 these days.

Ended up going with a 42” outdoor Dixie Belle. I didn't think those were even made for outdoor. Cute little fans but very different from regular Dixie Belles; only 153x12mm motor. They seem to be decent performers though. Least you probably won't get bad bearings out of the box. Would love to see your new house installs so far :]

Hampton Bay Industrial is now damp rated as well, and is powerful and costs about $90.

Makes a Hunter motor feel like the weight of a pancake 🥞.
