Being interested in exhaust fans since I was a kid, I was wondering if anyone here likes them as well.
The market of modern fans these days is really interesting to me. Most manufacturers are getting on board with the newer high capacity/Energy Star units. These utilize a large centrifugal blower which moves high CFMs at low sone rates (mostly less than 2.0 sones and in some units even less than 1.0!) A lot of these are utilizing DC motors, I just wonder if some of these motors are having issues like ceiling fan DC motors do.
Home Depot and Lowes both have their own private label fans, under Hampton Bay and Utilitech, I wonder if these are made by Broan/NuTone?
I know for a while Hunter was making exhaust fans, my friend's parents did an addition on their house about 10 years ago and it had Hunter exhaust fans. They were very quiet. I am not sure if they still are or not, I imagine they were contracting with some other manufactuer to do this. They all utilized the blower wheel setup.
I've also seen fans made by a company called Delta Breez. Never heard of them, but they seem to get good ratings.
When the house next to me was built, they put in a fan from a brand called "Home Netwerks." It has built in bluetooth speakers and also a cool blue LED night light.
Another thing is duct sizes, the high capacity/low sone units tend to use a 6" duct all the way do to whereas the cheapy $15 NuTone and Broan 50 CFM/4.0 sone units use only a 3" duct. Obviously moving air in a larger duct makes for less restriction of the air.
