Were the 2nd gen Ford Focus (2008-2011) good? I always liked the looks of this gen, the sedan especially reminds me of the Volvo S40 sedan and from my understanding there were some design similarities in the chassis between the two. Another thing I liked about them was you could get the ambient lighting and Sync on some models as well as heated leather seats.
I know the newer 2012+ Focuses tend to have transmission issues. A friend of mine has a hatchback (I think a 2017) although I haven't heard of them having any issues with it. Before that they had a 07 VW Golf GTI and that car had a lot of issues, it was a great looking car but unreliable unfortunately.
On the 2008-11 Focus my understanding was most countries got a newer model while the US model was more similar to the 2000-2007 generation but just new sheetmetal. I could be wrong on that though.

As far as I know it was new sheet metal to give it an updated Fusion look. The most recent ones are some gigantic piles of garbage. I was amazed how small the back seat is compared to other compact cars. My wife’s Elantra is like a stinking Town Car compared to the most Focus.

They are rust buckets if you live in the salt belt, drivetrain wise they are carry-overs from 2005-2007. 2012+ Foci are great if you get a manual one.

It’s strange I’ve never had an interest in the focus however I’ve always been interested in the Taurus especially the rebadged Five Hundred ones which were especially ugly in my opinion yet I’m intrigued by them. I think Ford made a huge mistake discontinuing the Focus, even if not extremely profitable to get people in the door to start in the Ford Family.

I love the 1st gen, pre facelift cars. 2000-2004, my family had a few and my "first" car was a 2000 ZX3, it never saw the road and I ended up selling it to pay for driving school and a new laptop. The newer ones are meh.

I think Ford made a huge mistake discontinuing the Focus, even if not extremely profitable to get people in the door to start in the Ford Family. I liked the Ford Five Hundred/Taurus and Mercury Montego/Sable rebadge for some reason. I think the Taurus/Sable rebadged was better looking of the two. I always called them round roof cars because how the roof and rear windows were shaped. I really liked the rear quarter windows which were reminiscent of the 80s and 90s models as well as the later ones. I heard the reason they changed the Five Hundred/Montego back to Taurus/Sable was because most people didn't recognize the name, so they thought it was sell better with a familiar name. My aunt had a 1996 Taurus and my grandparents had a 1999. I have a lot of memories of my grandparents' 1999 and my grandpa actually kept it about 5 years which was a long time for him to keep a car. LOL As a kid those were probably my favorite car, I really liked the oval theme as well as the round headlights they had. The later 2000-2007 models were nice too but I preferred the earlier 1996-2000. One time I went through old pictures and I saw some of my other aunt and uncle when they came to visit once, not sure I was even born. But in the picture was a Mercury Sable, the first gen from the 1980s or early 1990s. So maybe my other aunt and uncle owned one too I'm guessing. I really like my 2016 Ford Taurus, but sometimes I wish I had gotten one of those earlier Five Hundred rebadged ones. They were pretty nice and you could even get them with Sync. But I don't see a lot of them for sale. Plus if there's anything I really, really like on my car it's the backup camera and reverse sensors with the cross-traffic warning on my Taurus. Only thing I don't like is sometimes it feels like you're driving a bloated whale and relying on sensors to tell you what's going on with blind spots, etc. It's like who needs all that, just pay attention. LOL My little old Malibu felt like it was more connected to what was going on around you when driving which I liked better. It also got better gas mileage with the 3.4 V6. My V6 Taurus even with VVT I can only get the average MPG up to around 24.1 if I really try, and I get around 30 on the highway. Which a lot of trucks and vans now can do that these days, but I guess it's just a heavy car. My old Malibu was rated 29 on the highway but I think it probably got around 28-30 overall it seemed.
