I have 3 "WIND" series Homestead fans. Owners manual says they are models WN-11000 or WN-12000. (Not sure which ones I have, but the ones I've got are identical.) One still runs just like it's brand new. One quit and won't do anything. The third one just fell from the ceiling and some of the blades and part of the housing broke. I took the one that wouldn't run and used it to replace the broken parts on the one that fell. It was running perfectly before it fell. (I fixed the ceiling bracket where it can't fall again.) When I hung it back up (without blades attached) and turned it on it wouldn't turn but I could feel the motor vibrating. I spun it and it started going, slowly and then it picked up speed. I cut it off and installed the blades and cut it on. It won't start on it's own, (without me spinning the motor) and with the blades installed it just barely turns no matter which speed it's on. I don't know anything about capacitors and other "technical" stuff. Can anyone tell me if the fan can be repaired and if so, what I need to do? Thanks in advance for even reading my post. Leigh

If you turn it on, and get the blades spinning by hand, will the fan continue to run?

Leigh WN-11000 are Wind I ceiling fans. (Top of the fan looks like a cylinder) WN-12000 are Wind II ceiling fans. (Top of the fan looks like a dome) They are the same fan models, its just that they are stylistically different. Since I do not have any photos to go off of. That third fan might have some internal housing damage that might be preventing it from moving. Take it off of the ceiling and disassemble the housing and blades. (do not unscrew screws from the motor etc.) And inspect if there are any other bent or cracked parts that might be affecting it. If you do not see anything, then check the electronics and see if all the wire connections are good. If those are good, then I am not sure what might be wrong with your fan. If you still have parts from the second fan, that might actually be a much more viable candidate for functionality. I think the reason that one is dead is mainly because of the dead capacitor, but yet again I can be completely wrong. If possible, inspect the electronics inside. If there is anything that has bubbled up/melted/exploded, take it out and replace it with the same electronics from your third fan that had fallen from the ceiling. Hopefully this works out. Let me know if you have any questions. And remember, pictures will help out a lot more with diagnosis!

Brian, Thank you for your response! By the information you supplied, I have the WN-12000. The tops are domes. The fan that fell broke the bottom housing that contains the switch and what I guess are capacitors. Several blades also broke. I used the second fan that would not run for parts to replace what broke on the fan that fell. I did not change any of the electronics that were inside the fallen fan. (I made the assumption that some of the electronics of the fan that wouldn't run were bad.) I completely disassembled the fan that fell and did not see any part of the motor housing or the motor damaged. I did not find any loose/bad connections and nothing appears to be bubbled/melted or exploded. I don't know how to check the electronics other than just looking at them. Not sure how to post pictures. Thank you for your help.
At phroberts -yes, the motor picks up speed and runs on it's own without blades. When I put the blades on the motor will not continue to spin. Thank you also.

Usually a fan that won't spin without help getting it going has a bad capacitor. At this point I'd think about just trying a new capacitor. They're relatively inexpensive.
You would need to match the electrical size, measured in volts and microfarads (abbreviated uF). Volts should be the same or higher than on the old one, and uF should be the same.
