I don't know if we discussed this with the engines. But what does everyone think about the V6 turbo vs V8 or 4 cyl turbo vs V6? Since a lot of car makers are going to less cylinders.
When I bought my Taurus, my previous car was a V6, and I kinda wanted to stay with that. I looked at the Fusions with the 4 cyl Ecoboost and the regular V6 Tauruses and I just thought the Taurus seemed faster. I was also worried about the complication of the Ecoboost 4s, so I settled on the Taurus. The SHO Taurus also has the Ecoboost, but there weren't any around here to try out. I do wonder about the active fuel management it has on the V6, so I'm changing my oil a bit more often than the recommended intervals.
My aunt and uncle had a 2001ish Lincoln Navigator with the V8 Triton and never had any issues. Then they had a 2007 (I think they got it in very early 07 or late 06 I don't remember) which was also V8 and no issues, and they drove it all over back to the keys and GA and I think maybe even a few trips to KS. But when they traded it in last summer on the 2019, I was so surprised it was a V6 Eco on a full size SUV.
Now I hear Chevy/GMC is doing the same. My other aunt and uncle have a 2007 GMC Sierra with the V8 and it's never had anything much in 13 years now. (It's strange, I think they made two body styles in 2007, both the one my uncle has which has the newer body style they used in 2008-2012, and the older one, but both have the same engines as far as I'm aware).
As for the Volvos it was odd because that aunt had a 2010ish Volvo V50 wagon with the inline 5 which I thought was such a strange engine. But other than the timing chain I don't think it ever had any issues and it had at least 150 on it. They traded it but it was mostly just because of other issues, plus parts are expensive on Volvos.
One of my friends had an 06 S40 which was like my aunts but just a wagon. Now I think that friend had more issues and ended up trading on a Kia Optima, which I think is turbo, but I haven't heard of any issues with it. She was rough on cars though, once she ran over a concrete block with the Volvo and messed up the wheel!)
