Hey Everyone,
Who has some experience with the new Direct Drive Panama’s? My wife and I are in the process of buying our first home so one thing we discussed obviously was the fans. So obviously I’m picking the fans for every other spot and my wife demanded she get to pick the kitchen one out. So My wife wants something white with light wood blades and after letting her pick something for our new kitchen she decided on either the Hunter Matheson or the Panama in white. I’ve heard that they are quiet and all but anyone have long term use of one or noticed anything with one in a public place?
I am not a fan of anything hunter and casa have been putting out recent with their junk quality however the Panama line I’ve heard nothing really about other than complaints of it not being a stack motor still or just how silent they are out of the box.
I’m. Not looking for a buy this instead or go vintage response but to review and knit pick on a fan we all used to covet for quality Thai is now a high end spinner.
Have a great night everyone 😀

Sorry I don't have any experience, but all I have heard has been good, even though I don't really know that many with the current style Panama.
That said, I know you weren't looking for any buy this instead recommendations, but one thing I thought is you might be able to find a leftover of the model with the XLP motor, if you wanted the new look but not spinner.
I was only able to find them on one website and they wanted like $400+ so probably not a great idea. Since it's been a few years since the XLPs were made they're probably just about NLA. Just an idea though.
If it were me I'd probably just go with the spinner one though.

Thanks Cole!
I've been hunting for NIB Panama II's for a while however they are rare at this point. Also I'm looking to go new or new old stock since they would be my living room fans. Plus my ceilings are going to be like 18' so they're going on long downrods so I need leadwires and really don't want to use those wire extender clips or whatever I just don't trust them.
Basically its an open concept so its 2 in the living room that have to match and one in the kitchen and then a light over the dining room. So I want 2 matching bronze fans for the living room and since we have an whitish buttercream cabinets and tan granite my wife wants a white fan with light oak blades like the Panama Direct Drive have and this is the one fan she's going with. I know from experience the new Concentra's and Ainsworths are CRAP when it comes to the motors. Thats why I'm so skeptical with the Panama because at least its a big beefy 188x20 however everything else coming out of Hunter these days that aren't Originals or what was the end of the XLP's is complete crap.
Part of me is like its a bigger motor as well as it has the Panama legacy which I'm not saying it has a reputation like the Original for example but I know some people who know the Panama is better than any other fan at that I should take the risk on the one for the kitchen but the other part is like I've dealt with and seen so many post 2011 Hunter/Casablanca with bad motors right out of the box.

I love the panama XLP's I bought direct from them last year. At the time, they had 300 left, the rep said they will have them for quite a while. I no longer see them on the website but they may still have them so maybe worth a call to check. I think these were $315 less the easily obtainable 30% discount code. Had they been equally priced, I would have gone with the direct drive though because they use virtually no electricity and that's a consideration if you leave them running a lot as the xlp does use a lot of power.

Quite the pickle you seem to be in right now. I've heard lots of good things about the new Panamas from sellers at some of the showrooms local to me. I've unboxed a few and the build quality seems very good, but I haven't opened one up or worked with their motors. Only thing is that a new one of these is gonna run you upwards of $350-$400 with blades. Like Cole said, I know you're not really looking for other buying recommendations right now but judging by what you've seen from some of these new Casas, buying one new doesn't seem like something you would really be comfortable with. I haven't been able to find any Panama XLP new old stock either; seems to be sold out pretty much everywhere, unfortunately. However, I did happen across a white Emerson Premium Select (used but looks new) for around $125 on eBay, as well as a few websites that are discounting these, bringing them to a similar price to the Panama. Again I know you're not really looking for recommendations, but I thought I'd mention this anyway, since you don't seem to be very comfortable buying a post-2011 Casablanca. I love the panama XLP's I bought direct from them last year. At the time, they had 300 left, the rep said they will have them for quite a while. Yeah, same here. I haven't found any new-style XLP Panamas anywhere; they seem to either all be sold out or simply not sold any longer. As far as power draw is concerned, neither motor has what can be called "low" current draw; XLPs draw anywhere between 100 and around 115 watts at full power (around .9-.95 amps), and the 188×20mm Direct Drive usually draws around 85-95 watts (around .7-.75 amps); I believe both motors are rated for .9 amps. Not a big enough difference to worry about, to be honest.

I'm not against paying for $350 for a fan with a stack motor thats brand new. However for a directdrive fan I think its crazy. My wife is just picky with the color thats the big thing for the kitchen. I will definitely have a Premium in the new house I would say. I'm not comfortable with DC just not yet I really would prefer to find a stock Casablanca but I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and figure it out.

Having trouble getting that posted for some reason. I thought for some reason the new panamas were DC motors which I think use much less energy. I stand corrected.

I’m not sure yet I’m supposed to close mid June. I found a dealer that might have old stock Ventura’s so I have to call them today and work out the fiscal elements and go that route I’ll keep you guys posted 😁

Hopefully they aren't charging an arm and a leg for them. Best of luck

I did find the newer style XLPs still at this site below in white, when I was looking the other night when I saw this post. But the prices are really high and blades sold separately. www.elitedeals.com/cfc-59098.html I might have found some white Panama IIs but they were the classic white and I wasn't sure you were looking for that or a lighter color. Looking back I think they were just DC motor fans and they were using a picture of the Panama II for some reason instead of the new style. Yeah seems in the last year or so there's a lot fewer of the old stock XLP motor fans available anywhere. Also for other areas where the finish is more flexible, don't forget the Hunter Paramounts in brushed nickel and I think there's a black one on eBay right now as well. I'm still seeing Originals come up in the $135 and $200 ranges on eBay and Amazon, new stock with minor damage to packaging, should be ok though. Just thought I'd add them in this since they're some of the more powerful fans and still technically new. You could probably find a white one with light wood blades easily, seems to me that would still work with the look she wants in the kitchen, of course it wouldn't match the living room fans as far as make and model though. (Now I'm breaking the premise of the thread too.) lol I just think the other options are so much better than paying so much for the new Panamas that they should be out there.

That is too high for me lol. I did find a site that claims it has a few different XLP pull chain Panamas in stock but they were like $350 the website got terrible reviews and blades were sold separate.
I showed my wife the Paramount XP's and she hated the look of them although I find them to be beautiful fans.
Don't get me wrong I love Originals but I've never actually had one installed. I bought one back in 2009 with the intent to install it.. Ended up selling it a few months later and made around $100. Then a few years ago I bought a display model from Lowes had the intentions to install it and ended up needing to free up some spare space and sold it. Then I found an Archive Original brand new with the intent to put it in my house one day when I buy one... Now I found the house and its just not meant to be for that house and I can't justify putting a brand new original in my garage because it won't look right in any other room.. So now the Archive Original is for sale and basically going to fund whatever purchase I do end up buying for the kitchen and hopefully finds its way into a collectors hands.
So I spoke with the dealer that was looking into the Ventura's for me. They ended up having a few in stock in varying which finishes either in IT or Pull Chain. I'm thinking over the long term I'm gonna go with the Pull Chain model. He told me $220 shipped he would sell me one for and then I found the right set of blades on ebay. So I think I'm gonna go this route. I'm thinking for $260 probably total its a much better deal then paying retail for one of these glorified Hunters and I've always deeply wanted a Ventura. Now I just have to sell this blasted Archive Original.

Now I just have to sell this blasted Archive Original. $260 each ain't bad. Better deal than everything else we talked about here. Three Venturas w/blades is about $800, three new Panamas w/blades is about $1200, and three Premiums (two new plus the open box one) is just over $1000. I personally always thought the Ventura was one of the coolest fans Casablanca made; I like the smaller motor housing and the fan's proportions with both short and long blades more than the Panamas, Delta IIs and whatnot. Good call on going pull chain too; way better long term. On a side note, at least you won't be dealing with one of those full-function remotes you'd get with these newer Panamas; those reverse module control systems are problematic.
