We had one of these in the last house, it was from the mid-2000s.. It was awful, made a racket of noise but hardly moved any air..

My grandmother's house had one that looked like that. But the grille was more beige (probably yellowed) and it said NuTone-Scovill Mercury on instead of just NuTone. It was probably from the late 70s.
My other grandparents house has one of those in one bathroom and the other has a square Broan, both from 1994-95 when they built their house.
I do find these units noisy, they're about 4.0 sones rating at 50 CFM. They are very commmon around here, along with the Broan version. The ones after the late 2000s have a more rounded grille sometimes, but basically the same thing.
