What major shopping mall/centers do you have in your town or area?
Here we have the regular mall which opened in 1991 or 92. Which is anchored by JCPenney, Bealls, Belk and a Sears and Kmart at each end. But the Kmart closed last year, the Sears is still open. All of those were original except the Sears was added on in 1999. The Kmart had the 42" white Originals until the snack bar closed up, plus one men's clothing store has two Hunter Passport IIs in white. Also there was a women's clothing store that just closed recently that had two white 42" Originals.
Then there's another shopping center that's just a really big strip mall basically. That one opened in 2007 late and is anchored by a Bed Bath and Beyond, Ross, Marshalls, Gold's Gym, and Books a Million and Petco. It also has an Ashley Furniture which was originally a Circuit City. (It wasn't open for very long considering the chain went bankrupt in late 2008).
Other than that it's mostly stand alone big box stores like Lowes, Home Depot, Office Depot and a few strip malls with supermarkets and dollar stores and such.

The mall here just seems so dead now. The Kmart and Sears went out of business a few years ago, and JCPenney went out last year I think. Now there's just Belk and Bealls as far as dept stores, and a GameStop, Rack Room and Bath and Body Works. And the theater is still there. The GNC I noticed recently went out of business even, which surprised me since it moved to another space there a year or two ago.
The food court is a joke. Originally it had an A&W, Sbarro, Chinese place, yogurt shop and a coffee shop. At one point there was Subway but not for long. It was always so busy, as a kid we would go for lunch and shopping sometimes. I loved A&W burgers and the corn nuggets so I ate from there usually. It was doing OK up into about the mid 2000s, then during the late 2000s the food places started closing, the A&W and Sbarro left. Now all that's still there is the Chinese place and the coffee shop. A few places came in and left over the years.
There also used to be a Lubys Cafeteria in the mall too, my grandma loved to go there. That went out too by the early 2000s, now there's a Planet Fitness there.
The mall still gets some traffic but it's just not the same as it was years ago. I used to walk through the stores from time to time, but now there isn't much to see anymore. Much of the spaces are vacant, and the mall keeps talking about revitalizing and bringing in new stores, but nothing is moving in. Anything that comes seems to want to go in places that get more traffic.
They haven't even taken the signs down from the Sears or JCPenney. It just looks depressing with the old Sears store and Auto Center all empty, along with the empty Kmart.

My local mall had a Macy's (originally Hetch's until 2006) and a Sears (which opened in place of a Montgomery Ward store in 2001) as its anchors. The Sears closed in early 2020. Their plan now is to build an outdoor shopping center adjacent to the mall, and demolish the old Sears, but keep the rest of the mall, which is good, because it was remodeled in 2006-07 (it originally opened in the late 1970's).
My second closest mall opened in 1981, and had several anchors. It seems to be doing well, but hasn't really been remodeled since opening in 1981.

Hmm the mall here hasn't really remodeled. They did repaint it in more of a gray color scheme vs the original peach and teal colors. And the Planet Fitness part opened in 2020 in what was once the Luby's Cafeteria, but other than that the rest of it is all original from 1992 aside from the old Sears part that opened about 2000. I did forget the men's clothing store with the Passport II's is still open and the fans are still there.
Also right after Thanksgiving, they put in a new store called Bargain Bins which basically has these tables full of stuff you can buy. I think most of it is clearance.
And they also opened a Liquidation Store which seems to be mostly store returns and refurbished stuff. They sell ceiling fans too but none of them seem particularly high end, mostly Harbor Breeze and Hampton Bay stuff or generic. They have some exhaust fans but most of them seem to be missing parts like grilles and lenses. There are bins you can dig through but most of the boxes have been opened and stuff scattered around so now its random parts and stuff that are $1 each. I think most people go there for the furniture and rugs, and they sell lawnmowers and weedwackers and such too. They have appliances also but they don't seem to sell. I'd be wary to buy anything expensive there because I've heard some of it doesn't work.
The other big center here lost its Gold's Gym and Books A Million in the last few years. Then this year a Burlington Coat Factory and Five Below moved into those spaces, so it's filled back up again.
