Here's a non-fan find that I've gotten recently. This is a 1987 GE light fixture, usually used as a streetlight or area light. It has a 175 watt mercury vapor bulb. This light did not have its shade so I need to get one for it, and it did not come with a photo cell so I had to get one for it.

Interesting that the socket is plastic and not porcelain. How common was that on older MV fixtures?

I think that's mainly a GE thing, and I'm not sure if they only did it on MV or with HPS as well. I know after the early 90s they went to porcelain entirely. I think the plastic sockets started in the 80s. They may have had issues with them or it wasn't any cheaper to use them instead of porcelain. I don't recall seeing any HID fixtures with plastic other than these.
Personally I prefer a porcelain socket on any light fixture. It seems these days they are about all you see on new fixtures, but older incandescent fixtures usually used a dark plastic like that.
